It is the same with any Nikon DSLR with Live View. Because everytime you use Live View, the mirror has to flip up and the shutter open to expose the sensor to capture the scene. When you fire off a shot, it will close the shutter, drop the mirror, flip the mirror again, and open and close the shutter to capture that shot. Then it will flip the mirror again, open the shutter again and resume liveview.

Remember that every time you activate LV it is considered 1 shutter count. So if you use Liveview to shoot, it will be 2 shutter actuations every shot you take.

Hi all,

I got my D7K body + dry cab from H branch yesterday. (Spare batt is reserved and should come in within 2 weeks.) Pretty pleased with the buy..! A proud owner of my D7K! Tested out some shots with my friend's prime lens - absolutely fantastic! (Thanks, Samuel, for making this possible and everyone else who's made this GB a successful one!)

Anyway, from my experience at the store, here are just a few points collated for all fellow GB-ppl to take note on:-

1. For the Dry Cab (Brand: Digi-Cabi), the salesperson who attended to me said we can register the 5-yr warranty online and there is no need to mail the warranty cert back
- HOWEVER, the website states we have to mail back the 'Dealer's Copy' within 7 days to enjoy the warranty... Thus, those who have purchased the dry cabs... please do take note of this! The salesperson does not seem to know what he's doing...

2. The same salesperson tried to charge me GST for the PWP spare batt and dry cab. It was only after I stood firm & request that he checked with the person-in-charge (i.e. Kevin, I think.) that the prices were fixed with GST inclusive for the PWP items that he relented.

3. The salesperson initially passed me a SanDisk Class 4 SD-card (as part of Freebies A inclusive with the body). Fortunately, I requested for a Class 6 - as I recalled the D7K manual guide (posted by Samuel earlier) recommended Class 6 and above (esp. for video-recording purposes). As such, please do remember to request for (at least) a Class 6 SD-card for your purchase!

When I was a newbie, I started with kit lens 18-55 to determine whether I would be interested in photography long term, before i decide whether to invest in a more expensive lens for eg 16-85 even tho i owned one today.

In the meantime I read up books to understand the art of photography and the sciences of the equipment. The art teaches me how i can take good pictures with existing equipment, and what are the various tools I need to take better pictures. The sciences tell me the strength and the limits of the various equipments.

During this time, I also snapped thousand pictures to determine my requirement better. In the process I also have a clearer idea what I enjoy taking, and i am more aware of the limitation of the kit lens, where I need the most. Is it the wider end or the narrower end.

Once I determined my requirement, then I researched the internet to understand which lens would meet my requirement, and the experiences of users before me, and the review of various lens.

My decision to buy lens is a function of
1) the purpose of my photography, whether the lens meet my needs / wants
2) the budget, does it make sense in the bigger scheme of things in life
3) the performance review of the lens, am i able to accept the performance.

Usable is very subjective also. Depends on your requirements on tripod weight, also weight of the equipment you intend to mount on it. For a start look at tripods from sirui, benro or the cheaper fancier.

The only factor I took into consideration when I bought my last one was the minimum height as I want to carry it around on trips. Thankfully, the weight of my gear (2.5kg) is still okay with my tripod max capacity of 3kg.

Not just prop up. But also stay stable. The more stable, the more expensive or heavy it will be.

How long is the warranty period? The salesman told me the warranty is one year and asked me to register online.

Is this correct??
