Want to buy a 80-200 for my D7000. However, I heard that the D7k builtin motor is not strong enough to drive 80-200. Is it true?

I seriously doubt so. 80-200mm is not a fast focusing lens. But I'm pretty sure it can be AF by D7k.

the focusing speed is pretty fast actually, but the speed is totally dependent on wad body u use. its AF speed on bodies like d3s and d3 is pretty much about the same (if not slightly slower) as the speed of professional AF-S lenses. Since d7k is the body in question here, the speed might be quite slow at a leisurely pace. my 80-200 focuses quite quickly on d300s, and it's faster than the AF-S lenses i have (12-24 f/4, 16-85 f/3.5-5.6 and 35 f/1.8).

the wait for the group buy's spare batt is taking a tad bit too long. just called parisilk and was advised once again stock will arrive next week. lady over the phone stressed 3rd party batt available tho.. no way i'll settle for that

emailed nikon singapore and they replied stock already arrived last week. called alan photo ($75), cathay ($67), iphoto ($70) & mscolor ($69) and all had available stock at the moment except ms color (coming next week)

i'm gonna give parisilk another week. in the meantime if those who have not collected the spare batt freebie do update your nick if possible so we can gauge how many are affected.

I did tested a friend's 80-200mm AFD on the D7000 with the 9grid focus mode. Very accurate, however I feel that the D7000 does not have as much torque as the Dx00 series.
