Hehe. This is what happens in ClubSnap. You'll always find posts having information that you've never seen before, but for the person who posted it, s/he knew it from day 1. Pays a lot to hang around here

28mm F2.8 NIKON AF (52) AUTO FOCUS WIDE ANGLE LENS - this suitable as wide angle for d7k?

Sure but my point is I think camera makers went with APS-C (which was based on the Advanced Film Systems format) rather than with a 35mm format because fabrication cost would be an issue. Otherwise I don't really see a reason to do so given the prevalence of 35mm format lenses for cameras like the F5 and F6 you mentioned. Of course these lenses would've worked with the D1 as well.

hmmm, i think its more of limititation of sensor technology rather than fabrication costs... I'm sure they could easily have produce an FX sized sensor but a sensor with good capabilities, maybe not, at least for during that time, .... just my opinion

28mm on cropped isn't exactly wide. Your kit lens is even wider than this

Then on a d7k, which is the most average wide lens.

I want to buy but not sure if it's the suitable for me.

28mm equiv would be 18mm on the D7K, which is the wide end of the kit lens. From my experience it's not nearly wide enough for architecture shots, if that's what you want to do. Took a lot of effort for me to get even 1/2 (1/3?) of the Blue (Sultanahmet) Mosque into my frame. The 10-24mm lens though is awesome, though you'll need post-processing (can be done in-camera through the Distortion Control) to correct the barrel distortion espy near the sides. As an aside: I'd recommend that every serious photographer get a copy of Adobe Lightroom. A bit pricey (US$299) but lets you correct stuff like lens distortions, white balance, curves, etc. on hundreds of pictures within seconds.

The lens you're talking about would be equivalent to a 42mm lens, which is practically a standard lens and not wide angle at all.

d7000's not a FX camera. so the FOV u will be getting is equivalent to the FOV at 42mm on a FX camera. the kit lens provided is 18mm at the widest end, n the FOV provided is equivalent to 27mm on FX camera, which is alot wider than this 28mm f/2.8 lens u were talking about.

Are you looking for something that's wider than your kit lens?

Hmmm.. Uwa? Can consider nikon 12-24, tokina 12-24, and the almighty tokina 11-16.. Not forgetting sigma 8-16.. All within reach if u have a grand to spare

I started with uwa and I think it became the lazy man lens for me. Shoot first crop later. And didn't really need to think about iso even in low light conditions.

Is it wide enough?
16mm fisheye,equal to 10.5mm in D7000.corrected distortion in Capture NX2.

Doesn't seem that wide, maybe due to the reason that you lose the sides when you do distortion control. A normal UWA will perform better

Pbear say 18mm, Irvine say 42mm. Haiz... War clouds are looming past.

I support Irvine though ^^

???

The 28mm that the OP is talking about is equal to 42mm on the D7K. I said the same thing at the end of my posting, so I'm not disagreeing with Irvine. What I meant was that to get 28mm on the D7K what you actually need is an 18mm lens. (Ok, technically 18mm=27mm, but I think it's close enough).

No war clouds la.
