Hmmm...

I would be very interested to pit the D7000 next to a D700, same lens, same settings, both at the same high iso with same highest iso reduction, taking the same subject. The pictures at 12800 looks very promising,

But just curious, IF lets say the noise in the picture was not much different(meaning, unless u pixel peep then maybe u can see a tiny difference), while it will be good too have almost full frame performance in such a body, wouldn't the D700 lose one of its main selling points? Which happens to be the cheaper full frame with useability in high iso? (Leaving flagship D3s aside)

Although I do understand there are still differences that can set them apart, (eg: does D7000 have a virtual horizon? only the 51AF pt seems to be different)

Very curious:think:....no offence but it seems to me like they are killing off the D700, which hopefully translates to a replacement model being announced soon....hopefully....:bsmilie:

looking forward to its arrival:)

hehehe, i'm a member w/ few post too. and yes, it take D7k to lure me out :D

D7k also lure me out starting this thread after so many years! ;)

Iso performance is not the only factor that sets the difference between FF and APSC.

There are certainly more to it.

Just like A850 may not have the best iso performance among its FF peers or even lose to APSC, but i will anytime choose it over a A550. (just for DR alone)

I think new D700 replacement model should be introduced soon, maybe same for the D300s to avoid killing their own market. It's like a generation thing.

D300s replacement will be sharing sensor with A77 and D700 replacement will be sharing with A850 replacement.

So we could roughly gauge their announcements by these connections.

A77. So I guess will be about 20MP or so, 720P @ 60fps (D7000 cannot do this). Etc etc....
Not sure how's the ISO performance, if it'd be slightly better than D7000 or something.

Rumoured to be 18mp. Not sure how is the iso but it seems sensor manufacturing yield are able to produce similar or better performance despite higher pixel count which is a feat.

Last time was megapixel race, now is iso race. I wonder whats next.

Hi,

I'm joining the DSLR family with the purchase of D7000 (after playing around with compact, I think it's time to move ahead). I've been a Nikon fan since my first compact >_<

I can't wait to purchase this but no shops that I know of accepts pre-order. I wonder if anyone knows any local shop that accepts this?

Try MSColor and Cathay, they accept bookings.

I owned a Canon 400D and will switch to Nikon D7000. I like to shoot portraits and walkabout scenes. Will all Nikonians please advise me the types of lens and its corresponding brands I should consider. I consider myself a newbie to DSLR with a tight budget.

You need to indicate whether you prefer zoom lenses or primes. Secondly, auto-focus or manual? That's because D7000 opens up a whole lot more possibilities - it now can use 9 of the legendary AI-S fixed focal lenses (full manual).

For primes, AF-S 35mm f/1.8, AF-D 50mm f/1.8 and AF-D 85mm f/1.8 are all worth considering (the cheapest of each focal length).

Hi Kriegsketten. Thank you for your response. Yes I do like zoom lens as well. Having read many postings in this thread, I begin to understand a little bit about and fancy prime lens as well. My preference is taking portraiture and family photos, both locally and overseas. As I have budgetary constraints, I thought it would be better for me to find out the approximate cost and brands of the lens before D7000 hit the local market. Also please pardon my ignorance. What is the different in the AF-S and AF-D lens that you recommended?
Cheer!

AF-S lenses have internal focusing motors
AF-D lenses rely on the in-camera focusing motors

AF-D lenses will not AF on bodies that don't have a motor. D7000 has a AF motor, so you don't have to worry.

Have you checked the Nikon price list on CS? It has the complete list of common lenses offered to Nikon bodies (newly released lenses will take time to be listed). Take note that the DX-designated lenses are meant for DX bodies (like D7000), and FF lenses (undesignated) which are meant for Full-Frame bodies (FF) but can also be used for DX bodies as well.

For zooms, you can look at 16-85mm, 55-200mm, 55-300mm (newly released this month) of the DX range. For FF, you can look at 70-300mm. 28-700mm has just been released (will be above 1K). These two are affordable FF zoom lenses.

For portraiture, it is better that you go for primes as they give you thinner DOF, "faster" and produce better bokehs than zooms. The 3 f/1.8 primes I've mentioned earlier, you can get all 3 for around 1K or slightly more... Second hand lenses for all 3, you can get all 3 for less than 1K.

I wouldn't go for the 55-300 though, I'd rather get the 55-200 since the 55-300 is so much more expensive but just adding only a little bit at the long end.

by the way, 28-700 you sure bo :bsmilie:

I think you're referring to 28-300, and I think that's good since it's just a bit more expensive than the 18-200 DX, since joekohys didn't mention anything about shooting landscape.

yup, too quick.... 300 it is. :bsmilie: 28-300 is a different class than 18-200 (being DX-only lens).
