35mm on D7k body = 50mm in actual
50mm on D7k body = 75mm in actual
x1.5 factor.
That might be one of the reason depending what you're trying to shoot.
BBB is "Buy Buy Buy". Very lethal virus. :bsmilie:
35 or 50mm very much depends on ur usage, Indoors I'll recco 35 or 30 or even 24 & 20(sigma).
Outdoor u can take 35,50,85 all ok.. Just distance only.

For prime, f stop of 1.4 is really useful... I had a lot of space for ISO and shutter speed when stopping down on my 50mm f1.4
yup! thats the reason.
before deciding to buy the D7000, i actually borrowed a friend's canon 450D with the 50mm to try for a couple of weeks.
I feel the 50mm focal length was abit too restricting for indoor shots....as highlighted by one of the bros here.
for the sigma 50mm f1.4....haha, abit off my budget
Hi peeps...im still thinking whether to purchase D7000 with kit or its body only and get a better lens? what lens should i get for a start if i purchase the body only? Any recommendation? Mostly is for taking portrait and outdoor...not much indoor though...

But in the end, i decided to get the D7000 body-only with the tamron 17-50 f2.8 and 35mm f1.8.

oo roughtly how much is that lens? sorry im not very pro at lens...could you explain in more details why you choose that?
i'm not a pro myself. But i believe the choice of lens should be determined by what do you intend to shoot and the budget you have.

For the choice of tamron 17-50mm f2.8, it was recommended by one of the seniors here and I did a little research myself.

The first 2 are for cropped bodies (or DX body, like D7000). The second is an updated version of the first with vibration control, similar to nikon's VR. The 3rd is a lens for full frame camera (or FX body, like D700), the lens, however, is usable on DX bodies, which gives a similar zoom range as the first 2 lens when mounted on FX bodies. Note that when mounting the first 2 lens on FX bodies, you either get serious vignette or switch to DX mode which takes pictures that contains much lesser megapixel.

Was like u in the past, struggling what to buy~ but saw a good promo on the previous IT fair~ bought body with the free 50mm lens~ now using 50mm with D7k....wanting to get a zoom lens but dunno what to get still~
Just get the D7000 with the kit lens. Even if you decide to sell the 18-105 kit lens later, you will not lose much, since it will sell around for the difference in prince between the kit and body only price.
Shoot with the kit lens enough to learn and understand what lenses you really need.
