D700 with One Lens

On a FX Nikon body (D700, D3, D3X), the ideal lenses would be the AF-S 14-24/2.8, 24-70.2.8 and 70-200/2.8VR if image quality is a priority. During times when I just want a walk about lens and willing to sacrifice image quality for convenience, I use the AF-S 24-120/3.5-5.6VR. It'll help improve the image quality if you avoid shooting wide open, e.g. shoot one or two stops from max aperture (like f8), and use the Auto ISO feature to bring up the ISO speed and still get decent shots.
Hope this helps. Sorry, no the way. Want high image quality, then bear with the weight.

Fred

I suggest D700 + ZF35mm F2:thumbsup:

well said!

Haha for me i suffer from backaches and poverty. so i do need something really light for everyday casual use.

I sacrifice on usabality. I carry my only dx camera with a 35mmf2.
Remember the photo podcast always harp on the point the most useful camera is the one you carry with you all the time and sob handphone has no camera + sold off my trusty powershot too.

eh how come we are recommending primes. he needs a zoom. haha!
maybe the 24-120 or the 28-105 will be good enough. i duno about them but the canon's equivalent range 24-105L seems like a popular lens there.

Undoubtedly the choice should be 24-70mm f2.8!

It deliver such superb image quality with my D300.. surely it will do the same (or even better) with its FX counterpart, D700

Cheers

How about keeping your D700 as the main camera and buying an Olympus E-620 with 14-54mm mk II for your lightweight camera? The Nikon D5000 with 16-85mm might be another option too.

I think TS wanna keep his D700 body. Maybe TS might wanna try AF Zoom-Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF (3.5x)

but a smaller spare body would be great too!!! I tried my colleagues Olympus E-420 with the 25mm f2.8 pancake lens, its really portable and light!!!

Or alternatively, if you can't find the AF-D version, look at the AF-S version..

I fully agree with the 3 combo lens with FX body - for potraiture i use the 85 / 1.4 though ...

u want the quality without the weight?? shoot primes. seriously, not only is it light. the quality you get is at an extremely reasonable price. for a zoom to match the quality of a prime it has to be 4 times the size, weight and price.

well singaporeans being singaporeans we are always willing to pay for convenience. so the lens i would bring around? for a holiday, 35f2. wide enough on full frame and at f2 the bokeh is subtle and fantastic.

are you going to safari? if not 70-200 will be in your bag most of the time. :)

24-70 will be more useful in most situation.

70 200mm is for shooting potraits of the tribe people at the four borders of thailand and shots of the shows and animals the 14 24 is for landscape and street shooting, the 50mm will be my walkabout lens. does this combo works? I dont want to carry 24 70 as my walk about lens to heavy! so I am not bringing it along.tks!

Friend, you know actually what you are doing and jnet6 has a point too.

I personally, would also be bring only the 24-70, cause, during family tour espeically 50% of your energy will be looking after your love one.

I belief, in time of need, it is easier to take pictures with 24-70 and crop rather than having 70-200 with restriction due to the lens distance and coverage.

Should you not have a 24-70, than the Tammy 28-75 is another good 1 pc + D700 mix.

Finally, it is your take before flying off with the D700 + 1.
