Unfortunately, no .... at least not up to the standard of the D700 according to CameraLabs :dunno:
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Nikon_D700/noise.shtml

You get maybe 80% of the way there at about 60% of the cost. You decide if the 80% is good enough (e.g. if you're a pro and you need the last 20% then not good enough, if you are not then if very exacting/high standard or wallet thick enough also not good enough, or any other criteria such as being seen with not the very best is not good also not good enough).

For me it is good enough for another 3 years, then BBB. I hope by then $2.5k or less can buy FX, like D800.

Yo bros.... the D300 can also achieve the high ISO thing right??? Can right??? Please tell me can.........:sweatsm:

I understand from another CS thread that the D300 loses by one stop (in terms of noise) compared to the D3 and I suppose D700 too. That is, you get the same amount of noise at ISO3200 on D300 as ISO6400 on D3/D700. Still pretty good. :)

Can't remember which thread, you can do a search.

Some low light ISO 3200 test pics by the D700. Taken with the AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED lens.

With proper exposure by the built-in flash, the image quality at ISO 3200 is much better. This is the case with other DSLRs that are not so good at high ISO as well.

I noticed that all the images however looked much better on the camera's LCD screen than when they were downloaded and viewed on the PC monitor, especially at 100% size.

Thanks. I generally find that shooting cats is a good check on the lens quality and high ISO performance vis-a-vis the amount of details that could captured of their fur and whiskers etc.

In this respect, the D700 really perform very well at high ISO as the individual strands of fur were still discernible, even the fine hairs along the edge of their ears at ISO 3200.. as if the shots were taken at much lower ISO speeds.

Yeah, I highly recommend adopting a cat if you have a D700. :)

hmmm, when i buy D700, will let my dogs to come indoor for some shoot..

It compared 5d vs d700 using jpeg output.
nikon users in the dpreview forum are complaining that RAW should be used instead so it wasnt a fair shootout.

well i'm only was surprised d700 didnt manage to capture more details.
the color saturation on the pics looks good though.

I shot them in RAW and developed them using the trial Capture NX 2 which has many built-in post-processing functions some of which I did used. ;)

I noticed that in the D700, the noise level seemed to be very well controlled in the parts of the image that's in focus but very obvious in those OOF areas... like in those 2 pics I posted.

I got a lot of cats because I like to collect cameras... need them to be my models. ;)

D700 + Prime lens = High Resolution

Presume you did AF tunning to the lenses and pushing up in-cam sharpness?

wow! Looks fantastic. I'm getting the BBB fever... but have to sell my DX lenses first to fund it.

BTW - your kitty has really clean ears!!

Because it doesn't listen to dirty things. :bsmilie:

BBB...BBB...BBB...resistance is futile :mad2:

Haven't carried out any AF tuning yet as I have only just got the lens and was testing it out. Then again it doesn't look like it needed any in the first place. I shot in RAW with default sharpness.

Cat shots by D700 and 105mm VR.
