I don't know what's the trick. But my Ang Mo friend was quoted cheaper price, even with GST, than I was. Then my Ang Mo friend was very happy and looking at his box, all new set with valid stamped local Warranty Card. It's my regular shop so I reliased they charge higher for regular customers like you and me. So, I never return to that shop but I still recommend my Ang Mo friends there

On a serious note, SLS is a place I do not buy my camera stuff from. Too many minefields to thread.

And at $3800 with GST for the D700 (local warranty set) quite impossible at the moment.

I won't be surprised if they own multiple shops.. Especially next door shops which quote a higher price on the same item, so you'll immediately buy when you see the price is cheaper in the store next door. Then when they ran out of stock they just go next door to get. ;p

DD Photographic in Sydney is selling D700 at A$3499. Take 10% off if you can claim GST.

@1.222, it will be 4275SGD before GST reduction of 10%, which is about 3850. Not that worth it.. Thanks gooseberry

Was in KL over the weekend and walked into the ground floor camera shop in Sungei Wang shopping centre for fun. Forgot the name of the shop but by the entrance facing Jalan Bukit Bintan by the Chinese BBQ meat restaurant.

Singaporean : U have D700 ?
Shop : yes. RM8500 if cash !
Singaporean : Warranty and battery ?
Shop : Show box with everything inside and say warranty card from Nikon
Singaporean : eh....
IMMEDIATELY ...... Wife : LETS GO !! NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW !!!!

Based on current exchange rate of 2.35 D700 in Malaysia only cost S$3,617.02 !!! And I have not even bargain which I think they will cut a bit more....

With the saving in Malaysia, isn't it worth it to buy there ? If there are problem, I am sure the Nikon service centre there can fix with proper warranty.

Doesn't affect much, cos no international warranty any problem have to bring back to KL

In fact the Malaysian retailer enjoy a much higher profit margin. If add in the GST to the price it is abut quite close to Singapore pricing with GST. However rental and overheads there are very much lower which translate to more margin for them.
