Plausible?

Not rude at all. Your wait long long is how long? 1 year?

Just wait for CSers to let go theirs ......... maybe less than 3 months ............... ;p

Just a guess on my part. I did state 3.3-3.5K, right? We will see in 6 months time.

How did I derive at 3.3-3.5K in 6 months time?

D3 (body only) - $7999 (Street price about $7500)
D300 (body only) - $2999 (Street price about $2700)

Source: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3564185&postcount=21

8 months later
D3 (body only) - $7999 (Street price about $6400) Drop 15%
D300 (body only) - $2999 (Street price about $2100) Drop 22%

Average drop of 19%.

Now,
D700 (body only) - $4499 (Street price about $4000)

If drop by 19%, $4000 x 0.81 = $3,240
Assuming price drop followed D3 which is about 15%.

$4000 x 0.85 = $3,400.

Plausible?

I guess the drop may not be that much as part of the drop now is contributed by the launch of d700 and the strong sing dollar.

on the other hand, price will also be affected by the price if canon's 5d replacement.

so it's really anyone's guess

i got my D700 from a fren in malaysia with Nikon Malaysia warranty for 3980 sing. ( not grey set).

cheap or not? :):)

Not cheap and it is quite a bad move considering that Singapore set is about the same price.

Unless if you are staying in malaysia.

4499 is official price. street price should be just a few dollars either side of 4K

Don't despair. Just use it. If it doesn't break down within 1 year. Really no different to you.

It is stated to have a shutter life of 150K.

Since you already bought it.... go and take more pics and exploring your new cam.

Don't dwell on the pricing anymore.... the moment you bought it... it doesn't matter anymore...

Good advise.

Check price before buying, after buying don't look back move forward and enjoy the cam.

no worries.

it is present for my brother...:):):):):)

few reasons that i can guess:
1. higher taxes in sg
2. more "open" market in hk
3. more varieties in hk (in other words more matured mkt, more choices)
4. more greedy singaporeans

Singapore far as these imports are concerned does not have taxes for goods. It is mainly the high cost of rental and surely the lower no. of buyers/limited market that results in higer prices here. Competition is also not much. Thus Nikon/Canon Singapore charges a higher price here. Unfair : yes but we have not enough demand to help lower the prices as well. And we are have no choice but be suckers anyway for warante.

worked out my finances and im now a d700 user as well =)

...got the sb900 and 24-70 as well...

can get from Nikon Msia, price cheaper compare to Nikon SG.
As for warranty, usually the cam perform well even after 1yr

Suggest you read from post #304 to #308, one of the bro here bought one from Malaysia at the same or slightly higher than what is offered in Sg.
