Does anyone know if the D300 has dropped in price with the D700 release? Or is there any D200 left?

Im still going for DX as of now. Gonna bank in on people selling their DX lenses. When FX becomes the norm, we'd prolly get D700 specs for the same price as D80s.

My thoughts.. Nikon is just stabbing its own foot. The prices of Nikon is going to avalanche and no hobbyists are going to buy a Nikon just for fun anymore. And even if so, they will probably buy after the prices has dropped. Only those foolish enough will want to put the money for the first batch of cameras from the factory. Getting bitten once is enough.

Just speculating if there might be a minimum order for the FX sensors that Nikon need to fulfill. That might explain why Nikon is pushing out FF so quickly to recover the cost and fulfil the MOQ requirements. Canon do not have this problem since they make their own sensors.

Another speculation might be Nikon has some clauses in the contract when they supplied the steppers to Sony that Nikon should be given the right to sell certain numbers of FF bodies before Sony can push out theirs and Sony is now pressurising them because they can't wait to roll out their full frame body or maybe sell the FF chips to Pentax? ;p

Do you know how many D40/D40X/D60 users there are out there?
all itching to buy a AF-S prime

just think of the profits

They're more likely to go and buy a D80 rather than wait for AF-S to come out for the primes. Won't that result in higher profits?

and when the AF-S version of these lenses come out, they will upgrade
resulting in even more profits

I guess the new sensor demands very high quality sharp optics. But it is also about time to have the N-coat 70-200 after Nikon launched both the N-coat 14-24 and 24-70, to complete the traditional popular focal length range.

The aim will be to give it VR capability similiar to the VRII motors eg 18-200mm. There is a noticable difference. Not so much as to "complete the focal length".

:dunno: Once they buy the D80 and can autofocus why will they buy AF-S version unless their finger itchy?

nikon has to pay salaries too

so they have to watch their sales cun profits too

time to wait for the prices of D2x/D2xs to drop through the floor when D700 arrives... hehe... nice backup to my current D300...

The D700 has everything it takes to satisfy a broad spectrum of photographic needs.

1. The 12.1-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor with a sensing area of 36.0 x 23.9 mm
2. a sensitivity range of ISO 200 to 6400; continuous shooting at up to 5 frames per second (and up to 8 fps with the optional Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10
3. Nikon's exclusive 51-point AF system
4. Scene Recognition System for optimum autofocus, auto exposure and auto white balance detection

These are but a few of the advanced capabilities of the extraordinary new D700.

Besides my 70-200mm VR II Nano Coat I want...

AF-S 28mm f/1.8.. To this day I wonder why they discontinued it.

Nowadays, some new zoom lenses can even beat primes plus the CA is better controlled due better ED glass & optical design. Not forgetting the NCC (Nano Crystal Coating) too. The aperture blade is better in bokeh too. 28mm is not here nor there. Just my POV only. No offend intended. Cheers:)
