Hey AxeLa - technically you can use both full frame and DX lenses. Following is the extract from the D700 news release:

DX cropping mode[b/]
The Nikon D700 lets you select from either FX format (36 x 24) or DX format (24 x 16). At the default setting of [Auto DX crop], the camera will automatically select DX format when a DX NIKKOR lens is attached.

Thks for the info....

If you are serious, then sell away non full frame lense and invest on the "three Musketeers"
14-24mm F2.8 24-70mm F2.8 70-200mm F2.8. These are my dream Pro lens combination. At the moment, I am trying very hard to resist the temptation as I know my wife will never let me off if she knows that I have such "evil thouhts"

Waaa...."three Musketeers"?? Very nice nick for the lenses...thks! All prime lenses!! :)

You're a NEWBIE with such a huge and expensive collection of lenses and semi-pro DSLR body? Must have really deep pockets.
Anyway, a PRIME lens is one that has a fixed focal length. So how are 14-24, 24-70, and 70-200 prime lenses?

buy the d700. its good!

and remember to sell that d300 to me =)

guess "prime" means "pro" to some people.

anyway as a contribution to this thread, well, FF is gonna get a wee costly if you wanna get all these pro lense, and those other lenses tat are FF seems a little old...?

Sure or not sell to u...$1.9k onz??:D

AxeLa, why don't do a comparison between D700 and D300 before selling your D300? :P

a 'prime' lens is either a photographic lens whose focal length is fixed ,as opposed to a zoom lens, or it is the primary lens in a combination lens system.

cheers

Keep both to test......hmmm.....no $$ :bsmilie:

axela.....bring your DX lens ( the 16-85VR ) & the Nikon 50mm f1.8 ( this is FF lens ) to the shops next week, TEST THE 16-85 VR at 50mm & then fix the nikon 50mm f1.8D lens.

You will see the immediate difference & the definition of FF. THEN, you decide....which is better for YOU. ;)

See closely what kind of frame coverage you get from the D700 viewfinder for both lens tested & mounted on the body....... You will see the immediate difference & the definition of FF. THEN, you decide....which is better for YOU. ;)

It's just a ~5MP crop from the 12MP FX sensor.
