UPDATE

TMD.... I shouldn't have done it.

I took a D700 for a spin for half a day, played with her and had fun with her while in love with D300.

I deeply regretted my actions and no matter what I say, I know you guys will not forgive me for playing the D700. I think I need to be a real man and take up responsibility after playing a D700. I know you guys will not forgive me for being a two-timer. I am sorry for letting the D300 down.

I WANT A D700!!!

I have already said in #30.

All the talk about DO WE NEED IT ... who cares...

And your decision is made all the more easier because you have a budget for it.

Based on your opening lines (#1) ... the lust is obvious.

You are going to sucumb to the Clear & Present Danger ==> the D700 :)

GO FOR IT !!!

Or buy the Rolex for your wife / gf.

Yah I need it also. But I can't find a single reason to...

Go for it !
You can tell time with a D700 but you can't take photos with a Rolex.

actually u can,
one way is to snap a picture whenever u need the time, and check the exif :P

wat I meant was... you have more $$ than what the current technology (on the market) can offer, aka $$ is no issue, so...technology can't keep up with your appetite, and your fat pocket/bank, aka $$$ ....

apologies TS for the slight OT....:)

Ha ha, I forgot TS had the budget.

Buy buy buy....:bsmilie:

But poor me don't have the budget...

You most definitely can tell time with a D700 without checking the exif.

Just do it then! :)

Like you, I have the D70 for the last 6 years since it was launched. It served me well all these years with the kit AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED. I will add it to my collection of a FG, F3 and F401s.

I got my hand on the D700 abt a mth ago and it is just awesome. Some feeling as when I got my F3 20 years ago. More importantly, it works well with all my manual lenses - great pics. The output with the 14-24 f2.8 is award winning.

Ques to you: have you invested too much on DX lenses? If yes, why not go for D300 or new D90. One key reason why I opt for the D700 is to use my old Nikkor lenses.

You'll be pretty disappointed. ;p That's one of the reason why Nikon took so long to move to FX. Optics for film does not perform well corner-to-corner on FX sensor. Be prepared to buy the new lenses (14-24/2.8, 24-70/2.8) to complement the body. ;p

Go get it pal. You reminded me of my younger days.

When I wanted a Nokia 8810 during my school days. Hell it was expensive but I crave for it. I bought it when the price started to dip slightly. I enjoyed it tremendously.

I mean, if you can afford it and price is not an issue (Eg. when you buy, you won't feel the pinch), go for it!

Buy it, take more pictures with it to justify your purchase.

Keep us updated.

Cheers!
