Nope. It's using the same Sony CCD as the D100 except that it is a next gen version. Not the LBCAST sensor (which is a hybrid of CCD and CMOS).espn said:That is correct, the D70 will be using the LBCAST sensor like the D2H.![]()

Spectrum said:Although I don't own any Nikon DSLR at the moment, I do read from few related sites showing that the Canon DSLR picture(noise quality) is a lot better than all the Nikon's DSLR at the moment. Don't most of the pros & people who own a(or more) DSLR agreed on that. Hope I didn't offend anyone but I rather hope that Nikon will improve on certain technology.
For example, the IS(image stabiliser) by Canon was introduced way ahead of the Nikon's, probably around 1997, the VR(vibration reduction) probably
around 2000. And now Canon's IS is in 'ALL' the telephoto to super telephoto lenses!
Weather prove camera bodies & lenses(magnesium alloy material on most pro lenses) to cut down certain weight. And the white colour finished on all the big lenses to reduce heat factor. The built-in lens motor for faster AF speed. The aperture value settings at a touch of a finger. All this are good innovations by the Canon's. I'm quite ashamed that Nikon finally realized this. And all this are what we are looking for. Hope that Canon will have something that will surprise Nikon soon...![]()
The printing company that I'm working for printed the D70 manual this week. We also print (for Europe only) all the coolpix manuals and usually it takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the camera's to hit the shops after we've printed them. I don't know if this means that the D70 will be coming out earlier than was first announced. But anyway, the main details on the D70 are:
- 6.1 million effective pixels
- CCD size: 23.7 x 15.6mm, total pixels: 6.31 million
- Image size: 3008x2000(large), 2240x1448(medium), 1504x1000(small)
- viewfinder coverage: 95%
- autofocus: Multi-CAM900
- shutter: combined mechanical and CCD electronic shutter
- 200-1600 iso
- max frame rate: 3 per second (in M-mode with Manual focus!)
- NEF:compressed 12-bit
- monitor: 1.8inch, 130,000-dot
- video output NTSC or PAL
- USB
- firmware can be upgraded by user
- power source: EN-EL3 Li-ion or three CR2 lithium batteries (with MS-D70
battery holder)
-weight 595g(1 lb 5 oz)
other new stuff mentioned in the manual:
- AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF ED lens
- SB-600 flash, guide number 39/128 m/ft

well, if I remember correctly, your info here is only a subset of that was published by ThomSNAG said:Here's another thread that was spurred @ Nikonians (abeit a less reliable source). The thread starter apparently took this information from a webmailing list:

As much as I would not like this, but I think that this would be a more accurate prediction of the D70. Thom's predictions are a little too good to be true. :bsmilie:
But if it really is, hell yeah will I get one!
Look closely at what he posted. All his statements on serve to support the PDF brochure specs that Thom allegedly received.SNAG said:As much as I would not like this, but I think that this would be a more accurate prediction of the D70. Thom's predictions are a little too good to be true. :bsmilie:

In fact it even supports the 1/8000, 1/500 x-sync claim as it states "combined mechanical and CCD electronic shutter", the previous Nikon DSLRs with such a configuration had 1/500 flash sync.
If this news is true, then its good news indeed.
NorthernLights said:That makes D100 = D70
It will be much closer than 10D is to 300D....300D is way off the 10D....
As I had previously said, Nikon seems to want to make this the baseline for entry level DSLR. The D100 seems to have stopped being manufactured (or is currently during its last run), to allow the D70 to take its place as the entry level offering. The D200 should either be announced this fall, followed by it actual release for Xmas '04.NorthernLights said:Seems then a D200 is really crawling up and out off the dark shadows of the laboratory.....
