Zerstorer said:Here are some of the more notable specifications of the D70 as revealed by Tom Hogan:
- 30 second to 1/8000 shutter, combined electronic/mechanical, so flash sync is 1/500!
- 1005-pixel Color CCD Matrix meter.
- 1.8" color LCD.
- Auto rotation of images (while viewing, too).
- 20 frame buffer, 3 fps.
- 5-sensor CAM900 AF module.
- M, A, S, P exposure modes, plus 7 scene modes (Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, Night Portrait, Night Landscape).
- I-TTL support (up to three wireless groups, flash value lock, ala D2h).
- N80-like On Demand gridlines in viewfinder
- 18mm eyepoint (-1.6 to +5 diopter adjust), 95% frame coverage at .75x magnification.
- Exposure compensation and ISO setting in 1/3 stop (or 1/2 stop).
This list of specs has been claimed to be verified as reported here:

All these serve to make the D100 a poor cousin in comparison to the D70 and when coupled with the low price, seems to suggest that a D100 replacement is around the corner.
it's been taken down becos nikon requested.. read the page.showtime said:i dont seem to see the specs on the page you posted... is it linked or something like that?

You said the reason but I interpret it the other way.Barrios said:Something is really fishy here!
With that kinda specs (highly unlikely).....they are probably going to kill their own D100 market. :nono:
Unlike specs like 300D, the 10D is still selling like hotcakes. :blah:
Precisely! The D100 is near to its EOL production come next month (I guess for another 3 months), after being out for almost 2 years. They will then stop production and start producing the next gen. Nikon has moved all the products up in terms of quality and performance, giving the users better performance and ease instead of dumbing their products down just to try to capture a bigger market share, limiting the users.espn said:Also, it makes no sense to cripple a D100 for a model to produce a rebel just to make money, Nikon strives to give a better performance in the D70 than just to produce a consumer level DSLR.
Having that said, imagine this is a stepping stone, approx US$1K for the D70 with such features, I can't imagine what features the D200 will be equipped with. Not to mention the D2X too.![]()
Errr D100 was announced in 2002 PMA, released in June 2002. That makes it about 2 years old. The pro body which requires more effort to design and make (thus longer to replace ie cf F5 vs F80/F100 bodies) is replaced about 3 -3.5 years. The D100 replacement should be announced in fall. That would make it 2.5 years. About there.espn said:Nah, knowing Nikon however, they'd take another 1-2 years to launch after the D100 replacement is announced, so you can be rest assured the D100 has another 1 year of life to go even after the PMA announces the replacement (if they do).
