$1k???

That would be huge!!

Yes, those are very huge, that stand around the height of approx. 1.2m tall. This one is good for those who own huge lenses.

yep that would do, you can always buy another as your gears increase. it will also mean that not all your gears are exposed when the cabs are opened to get the stuff out.

I have tested my drown D70 again, still error in reading my CF cards.
So, I think it really died.

Anybody know if any shop sell just the D70 / D70s body alone, without any kit or lens?
I am preparing the repair cost will be too high and it will be more worth to buy a new body.
Thanks.

Have you sent in to Nikon service centre for quotation? Suggest you do that first.

As for D70, think you can only buy D70s brand new (D70 out of stock I will think) while there are so many people selling their used D70 on B&S right now. Some are ridiculously priced considering price of new D70s while most are very reasonable and terrific deals.

Maybe you can go to the IT show this weekend and snag a nice D70s deal and sell that terrific 18-70mm to those D50 users 'suffering' with the rather poor 18-55mm. :bsmilie:

If you really wants to purchase just the body of D70s, can try Lord's at Lucky Plaza. I got mine there. Check the cost of repairing first before you come to the conclusion of buying a new D70s body.

I kinda agree with your statement on the D50 users. LOL. I'm one and I could do with a better lens.

OK, thanks for the advises.

I will try to go down this week to NSC for the quote.
Really don wish to buy a new body, as I like my present body very much. the feeling is just there, hahaha ........

Call up and ask first, if it's beyond repair, get a new body. :)

OK, called them. They said if presumed the problem is only the CF compartment, it about 200+, and labout is 100+. So, repair cost is less than 500, which is fine with me.

But, they still need to open up to see if there are other things affected n give me an estimated quote.

A D70/S body is ~ $1.2k while the repair cost is ~ $300-400 dollars, approx 1/3 the price of a new body. May be better to get a 2nd hand or new body. Since the body is soaked with water, be prepare for additional repair cost.

Hi everybody,

I just collected my drowned D70 from NSC yesterday.
Guess what, they do a checkup n confirmed that it is fine!
No charge, all good to go!
So, I pop in another CF card to try, everything went fine alright.
The problem seem to be the CF card which drown with the camera that night.
WHen I pop it in, instantly the 'CHA' error comes out.
Funny thing is, when I use it in my SANYO EZ3, it works fine too!
I also don know what exactly when wrong now .....
In future have to be careful which CF can be used on my D70 .....

Thanks for all your advises, I have saved my repair cost.
ANd now to hunt for a reasonable good dry cabinet to protect the gears.

D70 revived:thumbsup:

Just like me.. I sent in a glass telling them to change the rear element group as I thought there were scratches there, turned out to be just stains, they cleaned it up for me FOC and told me to collect it
