So many problems... D100 still better (for me, that is) Thought of getting a D70 as spare. Now getting another D100 as spare.

i din regret getting a D100 .. was comtemplating bte the 2 of the .. now i am even more NOT regretting getting the D100 after seeing SO many prob witrh D70

So, is D100 made/assembled in Japan or in Thailand? Cos D70/s is made in Thailand. Likewise, it might bound to have some glitches during manufacturing process.:dunno:

D100 is made in Japan.

bring it down to the service centre and have a look. chances are they might need to replace the shutter. IIRC, shldn't cost u more than $200 (inclusive of labour and GST), cheaper if u are a NPS member.

Was checking out how to become a NPS member and found out that...

"Nikon Professional Services is available only to bona-fide, professional photographers."
"Photographer working with a registered company "

For amateurs like me, thats not an option then :(

I guess I will just get the camera looked at by Nikon Service and then decide whether to go for an immediate repair. The camera is still working. I guess I will have to live with the unreliability till I can afford the new shutter or whatever..

Thanks for the advice

Shutter replacement is affordable, as compared to sensor replacement  Just send it in.

For me, buying a 2nd hand DSLR is not an option, unless you know who they really are. Why?

1. No more warranty means no free services when something goes wrong with my equipment(s). If still got warranty, at least half a year to go than I'll buy.
2. All SLR/DSLR have a number of shutter life-span. When you go to check your shutter count at the servicing centre, it might be too late ( if it reaches 35,000 count or more) :dunno: already.
3. You do not know how well the previous owner used this item unless you know him/her well (like friends of yours who know their equipment well). So if something happens, there's still some compromises of agreement to be made between both of you.

That's all I have to say & all that mentioned above is to your references only. Thanks.:)

Sry to hear about yer D70 problem.

For NPS membership, I think there's even a prerequisite for particular models of DSLR which they deemed as "professional". The D70 would not be considered as professional. Read about this somewhere on the net, not sure how it applies here in Singapore, though. Can anyone verify?

Actually, I was thinking, if the shutter problem you're experiencing is due to a glitch in the first batch, should Nikon be bear the cost of repairs even if the warranty has expired?

And why do you bother? Since most of your posts are in B&S verifying other's sales and upping threads without buying any? :dunno: What made you decide to leave B&S and venture into the other areas of the forum?

i think the main criteria to be a member of Nikon Professional Services is that one should be a full-time photographer in a studio. but of course, on a case-by-case basis.

jus send in and try la.
i dun see NPS doing anything to uphold their rules and criteria and making it 'exlcusive'. :(

you don't have to own any Nikon gear at all to become a member. however, if u want to be a member of NPS, the main criteria is that u should be a full time photographer in a studio but that isn't true as i'v friends who are members even though they don't work in a studio nor are they full-tme photographers.

i understand that free-lancers and event photographers are judged on a case-by-case basis.
NPS membership will only entitle u to 20% discount off the LABOUR FEE.

Ain't I have the freedom to choose where I want to be in the forum?:think:And how do you not know that I did not buy anything in the B&S?

similar problem happened on my D70, first press give you a 'Err' sign on the LCD, shutter doesn't move at all. when i press the shutter for 1 more time, it quickly fire 2 times at 1 shot, both are not stored in the memory card.

shutter count around 7k.

I weighed my options when I bought a 2nd hand DSLR. I believed that the saving was worth it. I also wanted to get on shooting rather than wait for a price drop..or sufficient savings. Have to make compromises sometimes. I am happy that there is an active B&S forum here as it gives people options. If someone likes to buy new then there are enough shops catering to that.

All the people I have bought from have been very decent. I have no reason to blame the buyer for my problem.

And we all know that **** happens. Cant be too buggered by that.

GriGri > you want to go to the Service center with me ? Maybe they will give us a discount for having the same problem :D
