Hi, I use 1 original battery and 1 east gear battery. Able to shoot about 400+ before flat. No problem with EN-EL. But AA rechargeables doesn't work at all. First I tried, 2300mAH, didn't work, 1 shot and its flat.

Then someone told me 1500-1700mAH rechargeable is able to work for about 300 to 400 shots, so I bought 6 pcs to try. NO LUCK, doesn't work, 1 shot and it went flat.

Anyone out there using rechargeable AAs? Can advice?

Didn't change with ParkerTR because he say his new batch got the same problem.

ParkerTR, maybe you want to check with your supplier again?

I've shot up to 500+ photos b4 the 2 batts in the grip went to 1 bar.
Not sure if this works, but maybe when the batts are flat, the grip could be removed and then insert 1 batt back into the camera body itself to bring back some power.

With so many hopeless accounts on their grips, I wonder what Jenis (the manufacturer) have to say about all this?? Why make the claim on the battery life when they can't achieve the performance? :dunno:

I was that someone.

I am using 6 pcs of GP 1600 mAH batteries with the battery holder.
(These batteries were on offer when they launched the 2300 mAH type)

And it works.(I don't know why they don't work with your grip ?!?!? :dunno: )

Anyone else tried using rechargeables ?

After spending $210 or $150, we still have to buy and spend more on new but lower powered batteries? Does it make any sense.....?

Guess the grip likes the GP 1600 batt. Thanks for sharing. I will also go grab some. Btw, how many shots can the GP batts give you?

300 +/- shots (mixture of with and without the built in flash)

But the strange thing is that if you use burst mode the battery indicator will drop to 1 bar and the camera pause after the third shot for less than a second then jump back to full power.:dunno:

Maybe the camera draws too much power that the batteries can supply.

hi, thanks for sharing mega32. i got me 1500's and they wouldn't work. hmmm strange.

A wild guess.....could it be due to D70 Firmware version ?
mega32, ParkertR what is your D70 firmware version ?

These are cheap batteries. Cost about $10 only for 6 pcs. Why not?

maybe you can modify the grip to hold your cleaning stuff or as a water bottle and use back the original batt
looks like i am not buying a grip.

The latest firmware.

The grip works well with the EN-EL batteries. Just to be fair to sellers like ParkerTR. The AAs are a bonus if they worked. If not, 2 EN-EL is good enough to last whole day shoot.

Plus, with grip, my hand is more comfortable when holding the camera, my last finger won't be dangling.

Err whats so good about this - with the original battery in the D70 I can get around 700 frames before battery dies. I would have expected with 2 batteries to at least get 1400+.
Unless you are using 3rd party batteries - which the one I got will only give about 300+ frame before it dies. Probably pick up another orginal battery or the newer one for the D70s in the next 3 months time.

The good about the grip seems to have been overshadowed by many who have brought out the apparent faults :) I think the good about this product speaks for itself from the many users around the world who are using this product.

ParkerR

It is a nice product but I am concerned about its battery life diminish features - if push comes to shove I would (personally) prefer to shot without than with some time that sucks off part of my battery life - it could make that difference when you need the juice for more shots. FYI I am not very happy with the grip what Nikon has made of it - it makes for painful thumb if I shoot more than 5 hours. Hopefully the newer generation will solve this little hickup. I trust you can be objective about this.

Has anyone else got success in using rechargable AAs ?

Can't say much about the grip except that it looks and feels good.
(It makes an entry level camera feel and look Pro):bsmilie:

(Just like those ppl who owns an Impreza and fit it with a full body kit to make it look like a race worthy WRX)

No offence to grip and Impreza with full body kit owners.:)

those who already bought .. then live with it
those who want to buy , thinking of getting it ... i would advise u not to ..

The fault is quite fundamental here. I am ok if the colour is a bit off or the IR cable sticks out. but the primary purpose of the battery grip is to extend the battery capacity. However in real situations, it seems that 2 batteries have shorter life than 1 battery when using the grip.
