Recently I had a play with the demo sets at CS's 10th anniv... I was particularly interested in the 85mm/1.8G :
wide open... sorry if the image a tad soft... a bit hasty, I shot it under the 1/focal length rule... (1/60s)
With primes like this, how difficult is it to switch to Fx? 85mm/1.8G is just a bit larger than the 50mm/1.8G... not even considered heavy for both lenses... Great for travel, I'd say!
kwanhan said:personally, nikon's strategy makes a lot of sense... it is targeted at people who are upgrading from dx to fx, hence the price point... most of this market might not have a large supply of af-d lenses and as mentioned, the af-s refresh is already underway although it seems slow
although i must admit that the idea of a consumer grade FX (in terms of build and features) is quite strange and unusual.
is the current predicted price above the d7000? the lack of motor makes me sad.
to think i was just about to consider buying the 180 2.8 af-d ... for future use on the entry level FX.
didn't expect it to be so entry level... had hoped for something like a d300 kind of build. i think some of us are quite particular on grip and ergonomics. but i guess they want to attract those looking for something light. (it's like the whining that canon people had when the sturdy 50D body gave way to plasticky 60D body)
this move probably will further immortalize the d700 as a classic.
and the nikon nomenclature is a mess now haha.
sigh.
But noted the entry FX level won't have the built-in motor for future, then the AF 180 f2.8D u may need used like AIS in manual focus
Look like your photo is slightly out of focus

will we never get something like a d700 ever again?
nothing to be of the same class as 5dmiii?
Actually DX has its pros ad cons, the increased DOF, crop factor, lighter equipment
i am toying with the idea of a D3200 as a travel camera

Should increase the ISO for shutter speed at 1/80 and above

Don't think D600 specs are meant the replace the D700 (other than MP)... what's left is the FPS spec (see how that turns up). That's why the D600 nonclementure... I'd hazard a guess that it might not be a MIJ model (maybe China, since the source of rumour came from there). As for full-alloy body... questionable given the price (at best D7K type body). Even so, the plasticky built of D90 is more solid and rugged than competition's, so I can't see why D600 is built the same way... Remember, some peeps have been yearning for light-weightness. Even half-alloy body like D7K is past that point...
Mostly likely a true D700 replacement might still come... D700s?? LOL
one can only hope.
you think that there is a market for the true d700 replacement?
if so, that would mean 4 FX models, D600, D700 replacement, D800, D4
If Nikon's mindset is to eventually phase out the Dx range (slowly)... it might happen...
Imagine... Thailand/China factories cover the lower Fx range (higher and broader user base)... Japan factories handle the Fx higher range (lower user base)... Supply issues might have more or less ironed out...
If you had own the AF 50mm f1.8D & G version in G has much improved over than G and more vivid with sharper + no more CA in wide open already.
