What is the serial number of your D600?

Thanks.

Today I went to Nikon Service center and send in my 3 days old D600 with oil spot issues and spot on viewfinder issue.

They cleaned the sensor for me, however refuse to clean my viewfinder without charging :(

If they clean your VF FOC, then we will have long queue in NSC every day already :p

1st time ( 3 days old) they said is dust & keep saying I change lens a lot of times. I only have 1 FX lens. 2nd time ( 10 days old) without saying anything, straight away bring in for cleaning. Both cleaning are FOC. Nikon rumor forums also mentioned this issue.

Can't you request for a 1 to 1 switch because it's only 3 days' old?

Wolfton: Its a 3 days old camera!! :( I wonder if that spot on the viewfinder an oil spot :'(

Bro VF dust confirm is caused by our usage, not manufacturer. Unless your VF already have that spot when you bought, which you should have rejected anyway.

I suspect most who says they have oil spots may merely be just dust, but gets paranoid whenever a spot appears in the sensor because people hype it up in forums. Don't get me wrong, I am also the same, I did make a trip down to NSC too, but only to discover its sensor dust. Now after usage, I just do mirror up sensor cleaning with a blower, and the dust are gone.

Maybe for those who "think" they got oil problem can do that first too. Dust position moves with blowing, oil spots don't. If really can't solve then make the trip down to NSC.

1 to 1 is only applicable at shop where you purchase . Not to frighten anyone but i was very disappointed with QC of new bodies by Nikon.
i brought in my D800e (0 sc) regarding line on mirror but was told that its like that and then told me my focusing screen is scratched and dust on
prism . they initially want to charge me for focusing screen and change of prism , i make a big hoohaa over the counter and they finally change
the screen but insist that i must pay for cleaning /changing of prism . well i accepted the change of screen and cleaning of sensor (yes 0 sc).
Sold my D800e and stick to D3s from then.

Regarding the VF got dust spot is due to personal usage.
The solve up can used blower on the focusing screen on top on mirror screen.

IF the dust spot inside the VF of internal layer we can't help.

For the Oil Spot you can Mirror up and using the LED light and see on shining star spot is consider oil. If just only black color spot is a dust can be easily using air blower out.

Actually instead of oil, I find the sensor quite prone to dust especially if used outdoor and lense change is done. Almost every trip I come back, need to blow away the dust. That said, the blower method works perfectly fine. 99% dust taken care of, 1% need to use microscope to inspect :p

I wonder if the sensor cleaning device is working properly at times, same for the D800. NSC assured me that it is Lolz.

Hmm ok ....seems like Nikon has quite a few reports on this oil issue. Sigh.....guess I will have to wait and see like the other 2. Can't justify spending so much money on a camera with a known "problem".

Nikon products are great but I seriously dont know what is wrong with the QC nowadays too.

Though I have full confidence that everything should be resolved by next year. I was just in Japan and unlike statements of denial (I accept since it is corporate fear lah) by other service centrex worldwide abt the D800/D4 left point AF saga, japan has been very very frank with me.

My confidence will still remain in Nikon unless all these things are not solved by next year. Let's have faith, the design of the cameras fundamentally great, don't let a saga of QC issues destroy us, look at canon, they survived the 1D3 tragedy.

Oil spot on sensor can understand that people would be upset la. VF dirty also want to complain, the camera is a tool. It's not your wife or GF. Relax go out and make pictures. Dunno why people so worried about keeping their items so pristine. lol. My D3s got spot in the VF too, does not affect my image so why should I care.

Had a couple of dust spots on my sensor the third time I took the cam out, including a couple of sticky spots which I thought was oil. Took my cam to NSC and they cleaned it all for free, took a day though.

Yeah it is.

I suggest anyone who seen those spots to just use a blower to try blow them off if possible. They do shift positions even if blowing does not gets rid of them. Oil spots won't shift position with blowing.

And this is a common issue apparent in D3s and D800 also, as mentioned in Lensrental.

Strange thing is, as I shoot more, some of the dust actually "disappeared" themselves. Anyone noticed the same thing?

Irregardless oil/dust, it seems a troubling issue for quite a number of D600 users. Hopes Nikon sorts this out cos I wanna buy it ! Lol.

just report my D600 after bought got single spot of oil & 3 spot of sticky dusts and after cleaned and usage until now,
has been over 1000 clicks and never saw my photos in F13 shots got dust or oil spot again.

I guess when it is called an entry level FX camera, they weren't kidding.

BTW, the oil problem happened to the D7000 also and was later taken care of. D600 is an FX cam in a D7000 body, using many of D7000 parts. Just so you guys know... ;)

what is Spot/Oil Issue? any pix to show? thanks

You wanna know more, pls mirror up and used LED touch light for point to sensor and see the spot has shining one, that is the one.
If only saw like dark color should be dust else.

Usually dust/oil spots is wont effect you much :)

1. Landscape shooter, but only shot on F8.
2. Bokeh king shooter only use F2.8 and below.
3. The only effect you shooting in F13 User, but less & lesses ppls will cover on F13 most of time :)
