Eh... what you do mean by shutter lag? I am not very sure on this..... what is your shutter speed when you are taking photos of the cyclist cycling?

Orh, from wikipedia, shutter lag is the lag between the moment the shutter release is fully pressed and the image is recorded.

hmm i can't remember the speed.. should be around 1/1000.

I think the issue here is more of AF speed of the lens. Some lens have fast AF speed and can lock on the the subject instantly.

hi all!

i just bought d5100 few days back.. but i got a problem.. not too sure if it's my camera or the memory card..
after taking a few shots, the camera will prompt me "No SD card inserted" or "No memory card inserted" eventhough there's memory card in it..
i have to take out the memory card and insert it again.. but the problem will come back after few shots again..
anyway, im using SanDisk 8gd speed 4 memory card..

Can anyone help?!?!??! :(

I recently bought the Nikon D5100 kit plus the 32GB Sandisk Extreme Card Class 10, i had this message sayin "no SD card inserted", i could only take a 3 or 4 shots and that was it. Then i sticked the card into my notebook, hit "format card" and now its working flawless. Just get that done,WOULD YOU?

Are you shooting RAW and in AF-C mode? I haven't play on this on D5100.. I too slow to shoot action. I can't even do it properly on both my camera... lol..

There are some settings which you can set on D5100 to improve this shutter lag problem:
1. Set to AF-C
2. Shoot JPEG ( image is smaller than RAW so it can record faster into the SD card)

Can anyone add on?

But I still think for action, you need a very fast lens, some lens can do an instant lock-on on moving subject... like the AF-S 300mm F2.8 VRII... I tried it once.... very shiok... hehehe....

Haha yeah I shoot in raw. But in AF-C though.

Dunno. Maybe I try other settings with my kit lens then:) thnx!

Harlow, anyone using Sigma 50-200mm DC OS HSM Lens Nikon Mount Camera Lens?

I thought it was pretty cheap for a zoom lens.. Are third party lens ok to use? Reliable?

Thnx :)

Hey there's a new firmware update available for the D5100 and it says it address some memory card issues and a few other things. Check the Nikon support page, I can't post the link cuz I'm still new.

Hi all, I'm planning to get D5100 next month and found out that there's no built in image stabilization in the body but on lens, I'm quite concern on this because I got very shaky hands. Can someone advise?

What's the concern? Both also assist in stabilizing, juz diff technologies. The kit lens comes with VR (vibration reduction) so you shldnt worry. And if u r going to purchase additional lenses, get those that are VR.

Wiki on image stabilization methods:

Nikons tutorial:

I know but just wanna know is it better image stabilize compare to an body inbuilt one or in the lens one. for my shaky hand

Both are just as effective. They usually allow you to use shutter speeds that is about 3 stops slower than normal. If not using vr, just remember your shutter speed should be 1/(focal length of lens).

Thought of getting NIKON 18-200mm VR2 lens 2nd mostly warranty expired, but I've found here brand new with warranty even cheaper than streets price.

Don't need to worry! In fact lens with image stabilization is better then those in the camera body.

Hi guys, I wanna know if my D5100 is able to withstand temperatures below negative degrees?
I'm planning to go Seoul during late Jan where the temperature during that time is in their most harsh & coldest period of the year.
I have heard of the higher end Nikon DSLR with weather sealing but not sure of D5100.

I might also planned to purchase a 18-200mm for my travel photography shots.. my kit lens and 50mm 1.8G can't meet my expectations many times during my previous oversea trip.. not able to reach that zoom range..
And also does this 18-200 able to withstand heavy snow and coldness?

Thanks in advance!!

How much you bought and what freebies? mine pm me, hehe

Best to send / call them for a quote. Try TK Foto, SLR-R, Cathay.
Among the quotes I got, T K was the cheapest but as Cathay was just next to my office and we had some other purchases as well, we just bought from Cathay to save the hassle of traveling.
