D5100 user...fall in!! Part Two

lucky that was my only one. got it for $20 i think, some more i can say it's mid-range....hahaha...anyways, i don't know the top range costs how much la....

wait....was it my UV filter.....hhmmm.....need to keep track of my filters alrdy ley...

$20 still ok lah, didn't really get chopped.

I would like to get a good walkabout lens for my travel in july. I already have the kit lens. Any recommendations? Looking for 1 that can complement.

Kit lens is actually fine for that. Its different to recommend if you didn't state what you need. More range? Wider aperture?

hmm..looking for 1 that has wider aperture? cos i assume that will allow better shots in indoor/landscape shots?

Next would be your budget. You can look at Tamron 17-50, Sigma 17-50, Nikon 17-55.

yup I agree with the following lens recommended by spree,

I'm using the tamron 17-50 f2.8 got it around $4xx (good deal at bns, non vc version). brought it to hong kong and it cover most of thing i wanted to shoot, from landscape to portrait no problem at all =)..

nikon is definitely out. haha
I did some check with the tamron 17-50, the VC function is not worth the extra 100++ right? since theoretically it is flawed...

I'm not sure if it's worth the extra for $100, it's up to preference.

for me 17-50 without vc is not a problem,

did some research on both vc and non vc also. and most of it says non vc is shaper than vc. so it's totally up to you,

if not you can try the sigma 17-50 os ^^

actually, if u r looking at wide lens to cover indoors n landscape, i would say the kit lens, be it 18-55 or 18-105 shld suffice. i now tend to use more of my 18-105 n 35mm for walkabout n suffice to cover most of the requirement...

Was looking to invest a Wide angle lens. Somehow the Nikon wide angle lens for a brand new cost abt 1k plus or more. Make me feel sweat. Any buddies can recommend a affordable wide angle lens? I got one in my mind is tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Nikon mount which I can said reasonable.

Another thing, which filter to get if wan to shoot HDR photo? Or which filter lens u all normally use? The photo outcome usually I shoot is the sky not very blue n grass not very green. Coz I saw some of the photo their sky, grass or water very clean n smooth. Maybe any expert can enlighten me. Thx.

ehz u shld take note that the tokina11-16 cannot auto-focus on a d5100. However, tt being said, i oso use a tokina 11-16 on my d5100, depth of field is shallow at such a wide angle so focusing is not that big of a prob. Regarding color of the skies, grass etc, may be pp, just up the green, blue or yellow saturation

I was before in the same situation for uwa lens. After much reading n research, i finally settle wif the sigma 10-20mm. Can af in d5100 n lens quite sharp.

For contrast, u can try using cpl cos it can give contrast to ur photo.

You mean deep, not shallow right?

Cant remember how much but price is pretty decent for an uwa lens. Bought it at mscolor.

I have problem with taking photo of sunset..the sky some sort orange but my photo didn't show much of the orange color..more of blue color..can this be corrected with the use or cpl filter?

U can see it in nikon view software. Try using the different white balance setting to get the correct balance but u must shoot in raw to be ale to do that...

I'm wondering for the manual white balance setting, is if only on d5100 it is using a grid system to set? In higher end model do they use the tempurate scale to set instead?
