I also use a DK-19 eyecup that flips back during storage and provides some cushioning protection. Not sure if that would've helped in your situation though.

This D5 was forgotten and sitting in a shops window display !!
"The only seller is so busy store drawers behind the counter, so I must insist to make him raise his head, and asks if I can see and touch the D5. Very gently he said "yes." Immediately I asked how it was possible that he D5 that while it is not even officially announced by Nikon announcement expected in early January. He smiles and shrugs, well that's how! Meanwhile the housing arrives in my hands and soon I realize that it is fully functional.
I adjust the viewfinder diopter and passes in AF-C mode to see the sensors appear in the viewfinder and therefore discovers the extent and form of the covered fields. Then I ask if I can take pictures of the device with my iPhone, he answers yes no problem..."
OR IS IT ? I dont buy this story.... it was a deliberate leak by nikon. ;p ;p ;p
Sending some sample to some major stores and keeping a secret just dont make sense.....

As per Nikon Rumors....
The main improvement in the Nikon D5 camera will be the new "killer AF" - it will be much better than anything else available today.
Here are few new D5 specs:
- There is a possibility for two different D5 models - one with double CF and another with double XQD memory cards (this is probably why I was initially getting conflicting reports on the memory cards)
- ISO during video up to 102,400
- Touch screen (not sure)
- No built-in Wi-Fi, but there will be an optional wireless adapter
- I have a potential announcement date of January 12th, but this is after the CES show so I am not sure about that either.
I'd say 8-10 JAN 2016.
