Actually buddy.. I erm... use DSLRs in P mode (not auto) all the time ;p

hi ya! Aperture mode is the one I use most frequently... then next would be P mode. P mode gives you the flexibility of making adjustments, and there are things to experiment with. When I started out with the D40x, I told myself to stay away from the green auto mode... so I went to P mode most of the time. When I experimented more, I began to like taking in A mode, because it gives me the quick control over the DOF. When I experimented with S mode, I realized that there are other kinds of shots that can be achieved, like the one here. So each has its usefulness... and it would depend on the kind of pics you are taking

u can buy D40 kit at $850 inc GST plus the 2GB SD. So u're paying nearly $150 for tripod, bag and the extended warranty... I'd say the deal is good if u're planning on selling it in future cos the warranty will come in handy. Then again, their extended warranty got a lot of caveats and fine print so doesnt mean got 3 years warranty means everything also free during that time.

Yeah, HN offer is more expensive if I'll get the D40 kit only but if I'll get it with the 55-200 VR lens, the price is almost the same.

D40 kit sells at $850 on other shops but if I'll also get 55-200 VR lens it will cost me another $420 and the total cost would be $1270.

on the other hand, if I'll get from HN, I can buy the 55-200 VR lens for $299 for a total of $1297 which is almost the same as above plus tripod, bag and the extended warranty.

so HN offer good enough??

well ... coz i already got the 18-70 so i really dont need another kit lens . Anybody interested in just the 18-55 mk2 kit lens only ? Drop me a pm then when i am buying the cam brand new u can follow me and get the lens .

can sell off at $100+ in the buy/sell folder lor.. me also thinking of what lens to get next.. 55-200VR is a must-get.. then i also wana get a fast lens, something in the range of f2.x... but all very ex! too bad the nikkor 50mm prime lens can't AF.
Think I shd go and practise my manual focus with the kit lens first..

thats a good travel lens if u're not too concerned with image quality and whether or not fast or slow lens.. cos we all know those one-size-fits-all kinda lens will never give u the best IQ.

The D40 will definitely be heavier than compacts. But believe me, it's a matter of getting used to. Then again, it's only about half a kilo... you sure can bear that right?
Noise level, it's usable for me until ISO 800, anything more it's quite muddled. But still, it's way way above compacts. My previous Lumix was pretty washout at ISO 400.

thats not always true.. the D40 kit is lighter or at most the same weight as a S9500 fully loaded. I don't know how heavy the S9500 compares with the s5700 though..

That means can't use the 50mm f1.4 for wedding photography liao.. Else need to change lenses quite often. Like during the march in.. think there's no way u can manual AF fast enuf to capture the bride walking down the aisle...

I think the next best lens in the AF-S range wld be one of the gold ring lenses, think there's one in the mid focal range : AF-S 28-70mm f2.8D? But that costs $2.5 grand man.
