Well, I just bought my D40 and went along to get a Nikon 17-55mm F2.8 and a Sigma 50-150 F2.8. The D40 is my only camera body and I intend to learn the trade with this body till I am ready to upgrade to a more pro body.

That is sure a lot of money

Haha... ya... but guess the virus struck me as I 1st got the D40 kit but I was totally unhappy with the kit lens as I like to take street candits as well as wedding photos (for my own pleasure and fun). So I went out and get myself a pair of fast lens.

Same here. D40 with 17-55 f2.8, 105mm VR, 85 f1.4, 50 f1.8, SB800. I am ok with manual focus for some of the lens also. Bought with an intention to get a second body in the future. Wait till I know how camera works, then only I upgrade. Otherwise I don't know how to utilise the extra feature of more expensive bodies but the price keep dropping.

ya len must buy the best u can afford

ermmm am just wondering... D40 not compatiable with a 50mm?

Ha ha hey bro same here, D40 body + 18-55mm (Kit) + Sigma 50-150 F2.8 + Another MACRO Len (model yet to decide).

Advise needed from C'ster for Marco shooting, is AF-S/HSM neccessary???

Otherwise, thinking of getting the Sigma 105mmF2.8 EX DG marco.

Thanks in advance.

D40 got v-grip? 3rd party?

for macro, manual focus is preferred, but if you intend to use it for other stuffs, maybe can try going for the AFS 105VR or Sigma 150mm HSM.

None at the moment... you wanna try fabricating one yourself??

This D40 is designed for being a small camera, if you want a bigger one, get the D80 or D200 with grip... else the D2 series (pro cameras)

Suggest you go try out the lens 1st. You might also want to ask yourself what is the marco subject that you are intending to take. 105mm and 150mm might be abit too long if you are looking to use the lens for portrait (imo). I went down to John 3:16 wanting to buy 105mmVR. But after trying it, felt it's not that ideal for my style of photography.

HSM or AFS is not critical if you got other lens to cover 90% of your shot. IT IS CRITICAL if thats you main lens and without autofocus you will be pretty much be limited to non moving subject. Not good if its used on the move. If you have time, Im sure it does not make a diff with or without unless ur subject is sick of waiting.

Why not??

you just lose the auto-focus... you still can shoot with the 50mm's

erm... that's what i wanted to check... whether it can auto focus on D40... haha... but think it doesn't really matter... hope the show will have good price for 50mm too...

New Lens added to D40 range.

AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED

Thinking of buying additional lens for my D40.
Have set my mind on AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED when it hit the stores. And also looking for a Fisheye lens. Any reccommendations? Or alternatives to achieve the fisheye effects?

Fisheye?

16mm

But as this is a AF lens and not AF-S, you'd need to manually focus with it when using on a D40.

Thanks. But the lens gonna costs as much as the camera. Looks like its quite a huge investment. Any suggestions for cheaper alternatives?

10.5mm fisheye lah.. 16mm doesn't give 180 deg coverage along the diagonals on a DX sensor.
