Different people with different preferences. I like the canon system, but what got me to follow nikon was the thumbdail at the back of the body... where my thumb usually is, and my future upgrade plan happened to be on the line of a Dx00.

imho and from what nikon releases so far in their lens lineup, they will continue to use AF-S lens. It does not make sense not to.

I understand that D40, d60 is not able to auto-focus with older Nikon lens. Does anybody know in future, will Nikon produce all new lens to be able to auto-focus with d40, d60. Or Nikon will only produce some series of lens with vibration reduction, auto-focus and not able to auto-focus with d60

I think you will find that a large number of lenses that are offered by Nikon now are able to autofocus on the D60 and below. It doesn't strike me as a particularly serious issue.

This is how i made my decision to get D60.
D80 is too bulky -> out
D60 is more advanced than D40, so i paid $300 more for it.
D60 has D-lighting and anti-dust system.
But do take note that D40 and D60 cannot use old lenses without motor, hence you might end up paying more for lenses, unless u dont mind 18-55mm only.

i also find the D80 too big to fit into my bag and perhaps big for my hands as well.
the anti dust system is not really useful as some users with D60 already made some fuss about dust entering the sensor even with anti dust system.
i wont say you be paying more for lens cos you can always get just the body can go for a more decent 18-70mm (dust seal) kit lens 2nd hand at $240 and is 1 F-stop faster than 18-55mm but without VR.
only thing is with D40/40X/60, is that you can mount cheaper prime lens like the 50mm F1.8 but because they dont autofocus on the body, no choice have to MF but on the d60 can use the rangefinder provided to check for correct focus so only have to MF again

From what I understand, the D60's images are a little more vibrant than Nikon's Pro line. This is mostly due to the slightly more "applied" internal processing. The D300 approach is to leave much of the processing up to the fotographer (something many people value quite highly). Much of this can be turned down or off in the D60 so IMHO it doesn't matter...

While I do not have this lens, I got to play with it on my D40. It feels very well balance and the additional 2mm wider is enough for me to do landscape. The images that I took home seems sharp throughout, and the build quality felt great. What's not so great is the aperture as you zoom, but there are VR to make longer exposures more managable.

But from the specs alone, it's a no brainer: this is a great optic covering a very useful range for users who do not need telephoto. The VR will help in low light stills, but not capturing actions. As a daytime lens, it's extremely competant, but there are shooting restrictions during low light.

I still think it's pretty expensive for it's price though, and went for a 17-70mm sigma macro instead which is just as good optic and allows me to focus closer which can bring interesting results. And it's HSM is just as fast as the SWM, but this is just me.

If nikon releases a 18-70mm VRII retaining the same aperture setting, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. =P
PS: at a certain price! haha

wah dont scare me leh....i just blow 80% of my lowly temp pay on the afs 18-70mm set at 2nd hand price.
from the vr lineup i noticed that lens with vr their telezoom is normally fixed at f5.6 except for the more expensive constant 2.8 throughout lens.
if really got lens f4.5 then still got vr, i'll be very tempted but thats not very likely at the moment.
for now i just make do with my new lens 1st

I understand that D40, d60 is not able to auto-focus with older Nikon lens. Does anybody know in future, will Nikon produce all new lens to be able to auto-focus with d40, d60. Or Nikon will only produce some series of lens with vibration reduction, auto-focus and not able to auto-focus with d60

There is already a whole bunch of lenses out there that autofocus with the D60. No problems what-so-ever.

Hello guys, I notice alot of d40, d60 users got additional lens like 16-85mm and 18-200mm. But do you still keep the kit lens or sell them away.
