Hello guys, wanted to get the d60. However, I am thinking of whether should I get an extra 18-200mm lens or the 55-200mm lens. I believe the cost is 600 dollars more for the 18-200mm lens but saves the hassle of changes lens. Any suggestions and recommandations.

Now i am contemplating between 2 lenses for my D60:
1. Sigma 18-200mm $788

These lens are walk-around lenses which is at least an f3.5 i think, I am looking for one with a f2.8. I'm rather happy with a 18-55mm VR & 55-200mm VR now, just that I want to get a lens specifically for portraits. Guys, any advise, ideas, suggestions?

I think the term portraits tends to be over generalize; people are going to ask what kind of portraits under what circumstances? In return you may be getting very general answers. A 18-55mm can be use as a portrait lens too, and it's iq isn't bad at higher f number.

Looking for one that is F2.8? I think you should try a nikkor 60mm or 105mm micro lenses which can serve a secondary purpose as a portrait lens with success. Choose prime lenses for better optic quality, and the micro lens are both very sharp. Just that u need to find one within your comfort zone when it comes to range and shooting condition.

The new 60mm seems to be quite a lens from other users

D80 is too bulky -> out
D60 is more advanced than D40, so i paid $300 more for it.
D60 has D-lighting and anti-dust system.
But do take note that D40 and D60 cannot use old lenses without motor, hence you might end up paying more for lenses, unless u dont mind 18-55mm only.

Thanks for that. Yea, I know that there is no internal drive for the auto-focus; but there is such a large selection of lenses compatible with that system out there now that it doesn't really bother me very much, not to mention that there is a manual focus assist (not sure how well that works). I do love the compact size and the extra features, so I think I'm pretty much sold.

I am happy with my new D60. Very easy to use and control. Most pictures taken yesterday were very sharp, I believe it is the "VR". Imagine I have to look after my kids and take picture at the same time.
