Select for comparison, the Pentax 645D (MF), the D4, and say the EOS 1D4.

Select RAW and say ISO 6400 or higher. Then move the rectangle on the picture to say the top half (where it says "Thursday") of the blue clock on the bottom right corner, and see for yourself.

(Remember to do so on a good display. My laptop, for example, is bad in showing up the details.)

Silly me... MF don't go to high ISOs. So the Pentax 645D max out at ISO 1600.

Another interesting point of comparison: Leica M9.

Nikon has to pay off the Tsunami / and flood Damage somehow.

Why is everyone so keen on the D4? To me it honestly is not ground breaking. It's like a one up from a D3s and in terms of ISO performance the D3s performs very well and holds it ground against the D4. 9k for a D4? If your argument is get a D4 for its video capability, then your just making an excuse to buy a D4. Because I believe you can get your hands on a much better dedicated HD Cam.

Totally agree.... for me' I'l always wait for the second "reincarnation" or the Nikon D4S..... prob announced SEPT 2013 or thereabouts. ( D3 > D3S the diff was huge )

True, but for me now, I'd get it for the Illuminated buttons alone... very cool and useful for me !! That said DXO Mark rates the D3S Good alongside of the D4, no real gains here for me.

as a gear head myself...I have concluded that I won't be purchasing D4 (poisonous and worth it) but I'm keeping my what ever gear I have...save the 10k for the rainy days.
