Care sharing how much did you pay in total? Body price? Lens price? Flash price? Location? haha sorry ask so much.. :embrass:
Location Sweden, I bought it in a shop locally, so no point sharing the price info. I just want to share the joy of having the camera. :)

I just like to check with everyone. For Matrix metering on D300s, do you get overexposure shot on your camera? I need to adjust -0.7 to compensate for daytime shot. WB is set to direct sunlight. Picture control-Standard, Active D-lighting is normal. Is it only me?

Did you base on histogram or visual? If visual, is your display properly calibrated?

visual and the load picture into my pc is also slightly overexpose. I didnt know display need to be calibrated. Is it in the manual? I am pretty new to D300s.

Check the histogram. Most of the time, our monitor is too bright. For a proper workflow, I would recommend getting a monitor calibrator like Spyder or EyeOne. Even the LCD on the camera is a bit too bright for evaluation of exposure at the default setting. My preference is to set the camera LCD to -2 otherwise I think it's too bright. This applies to the later bodies after D40. There is a picture with a greyscale. I think -2 suits me but there are others who thinks -1 is good. It's pretty much personal preference so I would not use the monitor to evaluate exposure. The correct way to evaluate exposure is via the histogram.

Here are some tutorials on histogram in case you need them.

i see.. in that case it is equivalent to adjust the LCD to +2?

Mine tend to underexpose sometimes, but apart from that the Matrix metering works better than my old camera. Haha.

Anyone here upgraded from a D90? I have been thinking of upgrading to the D300s. But not too sure if it justify the cost of upgrading. My lens are N17-55, N70-300 and T11-16. So i guess it would involve too much invest if i were to switch to FF. I also like the crop factor of a DX body as i need the reach. I also shoot moving objects quite a lot so the better AF and fps of the D300s would probably be good for me. Not that my current D90 is doing a bad job. But any one can tell me how significant is the af speed as compared to the D90?

am thinking of buying D300s / D700 too..sold my d80 and kit, now left with sigma 10-20 mm to sell. think d90 to d300s not much difference. d300s & d700 price difference about 1k. if want to buy d300s, wait till price drop till $2k.

Don't get what you mean... :dunno: I feel 0 is already too bright. I'm using -2.
Me too. I find the LCD too bright and it fools my eyes, so I turn it down.

I tried Vivid mode, the photos are 'oversaturated' to me.

Any recommendation on Picture Control setting?

I will try Portrait with default setting over the weekend.

dear folks,

just got my hands on the D300s yesterday and got a question for you guys. I noticed the camera kind of 'shake' a bit upon taking every shot a split second after the mirror flipped back. This can be noticed by looking thru the viewfinder after taking the shots.

Is it normal? Is it some kind of dust reduction feature (i hope so!) or my set has a problem???

Appreciate your comments pls!

Hello everyone,

i just found that the 'shake' after the shutter closes when i take a shot only happens when i turn the VR mode of my 18-55mm lens 'on'. And when i switch to the 'Q' mode, the shutter sound is also not cleanly 2 clicks...

Gosh, anyone has any idea if it is normal?
