It's not wrong the the marketing gurus are using COMEX as a platform cos they want to catch new leads so not for us existing Nikon users. They know we will find a way to BBB anyway thru other platform cos we r already infected by the N-virus.:hung:

From what I got from Nikon D300S will be launched on late august or early sep. Price apparently has not been finalized as yet.

i honestly think price should emulate D300's launch RRP,

then from photography retailers we will get lower price,

if it's 2085, i feel it's ok for them to change,

esp if they are still using D200 or bought the D300 upon launch,

however if it's more then 2500, theres no way i'm buying it.

Nikon has not firmed up on their pricing yet. As this is only an upgrade and not a new model, i don't think there should not be any substantial price difference from the d300. I think they know they have to be competitive with the competing models such as canon 50D etc and would not price it too high.

Actually when I bought the D90 I got the EW for 5 yr cos I thought this is a good catch & I'll use it for that long but the N-virus is way too virulent and no vaccine as yet so maybe I really need my Minister of HA to put my $ in deep freeze:hung:

guys, before the d300s launch officially can we just go into some areas concern for the buyings or upgrades.
To start with, can i say D90 and D300s having the similar sensor as they are both same 1.5crop and having identical movie specs like 720p@24fps ?
If that is the case whether D90 produce good high ISO pix?? Because if comparing the iso performance on d90 and d300s, it seems like d300 is better than d90. Thats means if d300s really sharing similar sensors can i also say the quality of image produces will not be as good as the old d300 ?

please share your thoughts too...

ya, i think if the price does not differ too much from the current D300 pricing, then it would be a good buy...
anything higher might put off a lot of potential upgraders....
if priced too high, like 2500+, then it might make a lot of people get the D700 instead....
with stiff competition from canon, hopefully nikon will price it more compatatively....

so any idea when the official price will be announced?

there was a post somewhere saying that it will come with a kit option of either 18-200 or 16-85. no idea if its true though, till nikon starts shipping it.

but if its true, then we know where NIkon is trying to market this kit set to. its definitely not targetted at the pro market.

You are right to say that they both have similar sensor but as far as I know the sensor for D90 is a 12.9 megapixel CMOS photo detectors sensor (effective pixels: 12.3 million) and both the D300 & D300s is a 13.1 megapixel CMOS photo detectors sensor (effective pixels: 12.3 million) manufactured by Sony (same manufacturer as used for D3X) so there is a tiny little bit of difference if it matters to you.

IMO, if the 0.2 MP diff will be significant for ISO1600 & above, hence the IQ for D300s will be similar to D300. My only issue with D300s is that the ISO is max at 6400 at boost. Since it is now a cam with 7fps with higher ISO like 12k or even better 25k:bigeyes: you can go higher shutter speed than it is but I guess Nikon would not want the D3x market to collapse:devil:. But I like the Q mode- very good for paparazzi & PI works:lovegrin:
