Are you using a VR lens?

Hi,

Just a few question to clear up before I get mine tomorrow, hope you can help:
1) Is NX capture free with each set of the D300 (local set)?

2) Is the D300 golden box much bigger than the D200's? if so anything in it that wasn't in the D200 box (I know the manual is bigger though).

3) Most importantly, based on the few hours you had your cam, anything special to check/look out for when purchasing the D300? I mean other than what you would normally look for in any other cam, for instance I wouldn't know how to check if the Live View is working, for instance.

Can't wai ;)

Hi.. just got mine a few hrs ago. Let me try to answer...
1) Yes. Capture NX 1.3 product code comes in the box. Have to download from the net.. no CD. On the outside of the D300 box there is a blue CaptureNX sticker so you know you have it inside the box

2) Hmm ... never owned a D200 before so not familiar with box size. I find the packaging pretty compact though. 2 boxes inside . 1 with the cam body. The other with the manual and cables and strap.

3) hmmm.. it is pretty much a camera.... normal checks lor.. LCD etc.
Liveview is just another mode on the dial to select your Single shot, Continuous etc... I didnt test too much in the shop..

Funny thing on my cam.. the image count is rather high already... DSC_9000+. Maybe they used it to test burst shooting :D Anyone else notice this too?

Check the shutter count, not the image count. Someone might have used his CF card that contains an existing image number, and in some cases and setting, the camera will inherit this number to continue the sequence.

ah ok thanks. Yah in the shop i tested it with their old 256MB CF card...

looks like the noise starts to show when using ISO H1. other than that... it works for me. i'm waiting for the next batch to arrive.

H1 is the max ISO for the D300 whereas D3 can go up to H3.0

Hope this help a little.

Yes but be careful not to throw away any papers, the licence is covered on one of the 2 non prominent NX info papers provided, you ned to peal away the cover to see the code.

2) Is the D300 golden box much bigger than the D200's? if so anything in it that wasn't in the D200 box (I know the manual is bigger though).

No seems about the same to me. Just need to check if the usual contents are.

Just check the usual stuff for bad pixel etc etc nothing unusual. Live View is also new to me so just follow the manual and run it thru if you want. Other than that don't think you can check much without having a real world test of it.

muahaaaa... i see you there later today! ;)

Better check your firmware, my wife's D300 has A1.01 and B1.00. Other than that camera works fine. I suspect Nikon in their hurry to ship the camera, did not flash their firmware properly...:(

Hehe to mod must use D3 mah, D300 got vibrating cleaner, harder to mod leh.
So D300 for normal use than D3 to mod :bsmilie:

phaw... i thot u going to get D3 for modding? :sweatsm:

Nikon firmware had all the time been like that for almost all models.
Don't worry just shoot more nothing wrong.

Other than the firmware, the image count stands at DSC_0010, all ten images by me. :)

Love the D300, the auto white balance is spot on and AF, you have to test it to believe it, makes my D2X AF seems slow. Live view is a plus for me, hate overhead shot when you gamble with the image turning out right, in the past out of ten shots, six would turn out good and the others... :( not with LV, all ten images would be perfect.

Love the Extreme Four 8GB... :)

Not really, my D2X was A1.00/B1.00. D80 A1.00/B1.00. Got to be the factory firmware flashing...
