Thanks for the input here. Look like d300 will be my next cam. btw no one vote for d2x ?
I already sold my D80, because of over exposure problem when shooting outdoor.
Already tried EV -1, help me a bit. Sometime got to use manual exposure on outdoor hunting. Since I'm noob and newbie, not so good at manual exposure. So decided to sell my D80.

Check which metering mode you are using. It is important.

If you are not good at manual exposure, D300 may not be the wisest choice as it does not have all the other scenic modes. I started with D80 and I have no issue in terms of exposure.

I would rather stick to the D80 and save all the upgrade $$ if it's only the exposure problem. What's more, it may not even be the camera's problem. Selling off D80 and trading it in for D300 brand new... that's at least an additional $1200 there or thereabouts?
Easier to turn the dial to EV -1 !!
Anyway, like you, I don't have exposure problems with my D80 too. Just need to know where to lock the exposure with the half press of the shutter
