If you are not getting the D2X, I would wait it out for a few months and get a D300 2nd hand..better still, why not wait and save for D700?

D80 is still a very capable camera :thumbsup:

ditch the d2x....:thumbsd::thumbsd:
get the d300.....:thumbsup::thumbsup:

since u are not into pro. Then u shd stay with a D80. No point following the crowd and get gaga over which is better.
No offence to those who have the capacity to have it.

I would suggest getting the D300 as it is lighter than the D2X.

HTH.

eheh... i still trust my beloved D2x, period! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

contradicting to the idea of amateur should stay on enthu level camera, the noise cntrl on a d300 seems to beat the crap out of d80, which i too own. that alone seems to justify its price, coz for me i also do event shot for my company, and out there in the field, more iso is way way helpful. i would go for it, even if i had to pair it with 18-200mm. so for me i am aiming for one too. know what you want and make your choice =)

actually there're many pros who has chosen the D300 as their body of choice...

i'm sure u can feel proud of choosing the D300, you shouldn't feel any inferior because its not a pro body in name. its "pro-ness" is almost 90% that of D2X...its very very solid.

Agreed! :thumbsup:

hi guys,
I just sold my Nikon D80,
my friends offer me his D2x second hand, cost me the same price as brandnew D300,
I'm not a pro, just hobbyist, and I shot anything.. any object. :)
now have dilemma which one to choose ? :think:

Actually you already answer your question.. it's this one here.

I'm not a pro, just hobbyist, and I shot anything.. any object. :)

It defines D300 specs in there and thats what you should get.

my friend read my post here , :)
he said that he will give me SG$100 discount,
so his D2X is $100 cheaper than D300 brand new.
btw his D2x shutter count still at <15k

$100 discount can't buy you a commander flash to do CLS, I wonder why no one mentioned this. But to be honest, you don't really gain much by selling the D80 for the D300 unless you're going to use AiS or ZF lenses or you intend to burst at 8fps.. But since you already sold the D80, then go for the D300. Technically, it's better than D2X in almost all aspects except that the D2X is a pro body which uses EN-EL4 which lasts a bit longer and more weather resilient. You can also use the EN-EL4/4a with the D300 if you get the MB-D10 + BL-3 battery door. But the battery and charger will cost you quite a bit.

Why do you want to buy a D300 or a D2X in the first place? For the look, the feel or the photography?

Have your D80 restructed your style of photography?

How would the D300 or the D2X improve your photography?

Or perhaps another lens would be a better choice.

Ask yourself the above questions and you would have your answer. At the end of the day, you are your best judge of what you want or need.

Cheers

Don't know about you, but I find this posting patronising. TS asked to compare D300 and D2x and it is probably better just sticking to topic and answer it. Besides, TS sold the D80 already.

My 2c - go with D300.

Hahaha... Server lagged and the request didn't go through? ;p

Thanks for the input here. Look like d300 will be my next cam. :) btw no one vote for d2x ? :p
I already sold my D80, because of over exposure problem when shooting outdoor.
Already tried EV -1, help me a bit. Sometime got to use manual exposure on outdoor hunting. Since I'm noob and newbie, not so good at manual exposure. So decided to sell my D80. :)

Hmm....... I wonder if a D300 or D2X would help in this situation..... I think it might be more important to learn about exposure than finding a body which could do that for you. There are always situations where you need to know where to take the metering from for the exposure to be correct. :think:
