D300 at high ISO

how acceptable is noise, is subjective.

different pple can accept different varieties of noise levels.

from both the images posted, i cant accept both.

but of course, they will only look bad at 100% crop. so for most cases and times, its actually alright, if we look at the entire picture instead.

That's why I posted both the entire picture and the crop. ;p Not asking anyone to accept that kind of noise. I myself shoot at ISO1600 max for both D90 and D300, but by no means are those ISO3200 images from a D300 -quote- blotches of noise -unquote-. ;p

Expose it properly and you'll see that it's not as bad as you think.... Under-exposed pics suffer from bad noise problems.

Agreed... Under exposed photos taken with high iso will have very severe noise problems

I have shot with Press 800 pushed 1 stop way back and they printed to 4x6s and 6x8s decently then.

Compared to digital however, they stink. I have some scanned Press 800 at 1600 somewhere... I think you'll all find that the D300 at ISO 3200 way better than those.

hi.. i'm sharing the ISO from D300.. here have some photos for low and higher Noise.

I would liken the noise of the D300 at ISO 3200 to the grains in a roll of ISO400 negative film then. The grains of ISO800 film is worse.

Under exposed images taken at high ISO will have very severe noise problems when you PP it to brighten up the image.

haha yeap yeap i agree... and i think that "blotches of noise" is a little over-extreme in describing the noise.. haha.

somehow, I just dun really like shooting at such high ISO. i try my best to keep my ISO settings below 1000. the noise in the shadows can get really overwhelming for me...

Yeah, If I can I dont want to shoot at high ISO. But sometimes situations dont allow, like bowling, table tennis games. They dont allow flash photography.

my take of ppl complaining about noise....

ISO 1600 ohh so noise..
but when print in 4R.. can't even see a bloody grain

Professional usually shoot at ISO 200 to max 400
and only use high ISO when desperate
hence not much noise

if u want the same result
get a bigger and better lenses

cuz no matter which system that u go to
Nikon or Canon or even Hasselblad
high ISO = high noise

For me, ISO 200-800 is interchangeable. ISO 1600 is stepped up when needed. I only pause to think when I need to use 3200.
