D3 and D700

gee.. i thought D3 is only for pj and sport photogs with long lenses (: i was never tempted by the F5, D2, D3., and i'm still not.
keeping my F3, F6, and D60 as throw around camera.

for the record i was the first person on the wait-list, but i'm holding off for now on a purchase of a D700, this is not digital F6 - yet. nikon soon will launch a pixel leader FX camera (if my hunch is right, in another D700 style body, same high ISO capable), enough to make the possible 5D Mk II and 1Ds Mk III a less desirable camera to purchase.. and oh, will eventually bring the D700 price down and make your D3 price drop even further..

it's your call whether you should sell now or keep your D3.. the moment you swipe your card to purchase any DSLR for hobby, you lose money anyway..
. .. ... oops! you probably know that already

ok, ok, i could be _totally_ wrong here, but if i may suggest, sell your D3 then wait for the price drop, or wait for them to sell their D700 *grin* (:
the best camera in the world is useless if you are inclined to leave it at home.

ha ha... if you can wait some more, you can wait for D8X rumoured to have 100 mega pixel but file size only 1 MB and no noise even at ISO 200,000.

But only available 5 decades later :bsmilie:

It's now! Today! At the rate both Nikon and Canon are going, their cameras are obsolete the moment they reach the shelves. :bsmilie:

Why not get a cheap D40x and keep your D3?

Considering that you travel and the types of things you should, you should get rid of the D3
and go for the D700. Seriously, you don't really need 9 fps and delete like mad after mindless shooting. Carrying a D3 for traveling is so uncool.. not to mention the extra weight you have to carry for nothing.
Furthermore D700 gives you sensor cleaning which is lacking in D3, definitely a big bonus when you go on a trip. Think no more my friend, go for it.

pfft. carrying a d3 while travelling is character-building. :D

My advice is keep your D3 for now. D3 is the coolest camera. I bring my D3 for travel as well. Bring it out more, eventually and you will be used to the weight and size.

Go rent a D700 and see whether you like it before taking the plunge.

I assume the TS is quite well off, being able to afford a D3.

Why not keep the D3 and buy a D700.

Use it for a while and decide which to sell.

Haha.. then u can buy either one of them at a lower price, right? Clever!:bsmilie:

ssssh! don't let the cat out of the bag. :bsmilie:

we shouldn't encourage the TS to have this type of mentality. every photog should learn to understand his equipment before purchase (needs and wants) and after purchase (features and usage).

Hi all

Thanks all for the feedback.

I went to see the D700 just now. It's looks OK to me. I may just take the plunge to sell the D3 just because the D700 is a lot easier to handle and has the same capability as the D3 (at least from what I need).

Then again, it's a hard decision due to some of the reasons as listed by some people here. Either way, I just have to make a decision and move forward. And prob there's no right or wrong decision here as each direction has it's own merits and cons.

Thanks all

Used D3 = New D700 + cash...
you can have another good lens... nice :D

d700 + sb900 :)

talk about SB900.... bro, you by chance got test it with D200???? Want to know if it's worth it base on the result..... or a SB600 will suffice for cam like D200.....:dunno:....

Sorry my D200 sold off already with my 17 -55mm no more DX for me.

Nothing that the SB 600 cannot do, except SB 900 make it earsier and less headache. ;)

I like travelling a lot too and between the 2....I will go for the D700 because of the weight and size

I really hate the bulk of the DSLR camera gears when going through all those airport screenings...also imagine if you walk for hours with a D3...you'll need a much much stronger back, neck or shoulder and will definately attract more stares because it looks so pro

I can understand monetary lost is inevitable for your case.....but money lost can be earned, opportunity lost is forever :)

get D700 lah.

I think people who bring expensive camera and lens to travel will not enjoy fully as they will keep on worry about camera lost lah, rob lah, get dirty / wet, stolen, get knocked accidentally etc.

When I brought my D40 to Japan and Cambodia, I dun have all these worries, fully enjoyed. I even dare to put my camera on chair and eat in peace.
