do u guys find it's significant upgrade?

usually the versions with S not much of a big upgrade.

same thing from the F801 - F801s days.

The pricing looks cool also..

I'm still ironing out the issues, the main gripe is the AF module difference which I got a feeling it will be very significant for those that are finding the D2X focusing algo different from the D2H/S.

I've other info which shows that it's worth to get (read: upgrade), but from what is revealed so far, the only deciding factor for me is the AF module difference (for tracking).

A very big plus point is the dual function of the "FUNC" button, I've been asking Nikon to add in a 2nd "FUNC button", now they've done it the software way :bsmilie:

The professionals might find the Image Authentication/GPS a big plus. Heard there's a very portable GPS unit for use with the MC-35 too *ahem* (now I know why Capture NX was delayed :sticktong).

I can live without
- 60 continous shots
- EN-EL4a (believe me, trust me)
- Black/White Mode (never needed it)
- 3 Custom Curves (1 is enough and I don't use it)
- Hi-ISO steppings
- New higher better dot-pitched LCD.
- Inbuilt USB2.0 cable (? - I prefer my Lexar FW card reader anyday).

I was wishing for:
- Calibrated ISO-1600/3200
- Additional "FUNC" button
- MM III (But there's an improved MM II already for D2Xs)

Actually, nothing much improved (from a non-professional consumer POV) but for a professional, I believe certain features are worth the upgrade and Nikon probably will arrange for them special arrangement(s). However for the consumer(s), it's not worth the upgrade definitely.

D2xs subclasses from obselete D2x, therefore, D2Xs is an obselete replacement that's already obselete :nono:
classic.

waiting for a proper review from ***!!!

I'm refreshing the pages

Is this going to be a trend for camera manufacturers, to release an update/improvement after a period of time to extend the marketing life of the product?

this is call fine-tuning of the shelf product. :bsmilie:

there's nothing we can do about it. its really LPPL for the first batch of owners esp. if the improvement is vast and dramatic.

maybe Nikon would be so nice to offer a trade in for the existing owners...

This "trend" has been happening since the old days of film - F801/F801s, F3/F3hp, F90/F90x are just some examples - seems to me they have a long history of adding refinements to their cameras, which I think is a good thing. Would you want the camera engineers to stop looking at ways to improve their products ?

D2Xs is really ideal for wild life and sports fotographers alike.

a tiny computer with an imaging sensor can do wonders.

I don't mind, but I would have preferred a larger gap of improvement than just these adjustments, of which I think most normal consumers not affected or would see any sense to move to D2XS, as replied earlier to mpenza here - http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=199924

They've done everything to distinguish what they can of D2XS from D2X to cater for the professionals, but it's only that substantial. Certain other requests like sizable NEF shooting could have been an ideal addition also.

Professionals might think otherwise.

Food for thought, are these improvements, improvements? ;)

Wah... Confirm D2Xs.

After D70->D70s, D2X->D2Xs, now we can be sure about D50s (and maybe D200s) :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie: .

Regards,
Arto.

bingo.

Hi Mike,

Well said, well said..The camera does has “great improvements & upgrades” as far as the specs are concerned.

The new model has about 20 revised improvements & refinements, including a more robust battery. It seems that Nikon is upgrading an already “flagship” to an even higher "ultimate”..

Nikon has always been very “conservative” (if you like to termed it) in its relentless effort to created the “perfect pro” equipment. They listened to the people in the fields and then very carefully; incorporate their R&D thru’ all aspects of needs, (and I really mean specific ones) from the feedbacks and comments from these professionals in their respective fields.

As you have mentioned “you do not need the burst of continuous shots, B/W mode, etc”. Exactly, you have got it.. You accessed your needs and wants before the great plunge.!

Just as what Nikon has did to come out with upgrades/improvements to their line of digitals; be it in areas for the professionals or prosumers. Again as 1 CSer said..”1st the F801 then followed closely with the F801s”..

I have been on the Nikon platform all these years. From my first F series to the now D series.. Thru’ these fleeting moments of my job, I have owned and used the various Nikon models (not all the models I pardoned), in my field of work. I must say the equipment has performed well and reults were satisfactory.

Just like Nikon, we too at this end are also relentlessly improving our skills to fit the bill too. I must say a “wonderful” camera that is in the hands of the photographer is indeed great to have but again the right tools for the job and the right person is of significance; that of course is in my humble opinions. I believe there are guys out there who will see to differ that.

After all, my concern cores down to the needs of the photographer’s. Only he or she knows what is “best” required to fulfill his/her job assignments.

I met someone from this forum who was the proud owner of a wonderful camera, the D70s..However, in less than 2 months he became the proud owner of the D200.! What surpried me is until his full understanding of the wonderful features of his previous camera was utilised and put to work, the changed is already made.

Now he is telling me about a possible D2hs or even D2X or D2Xs on his mind..It saddened me to see such frantic chase after “equipment”. Get what is needed for the job and not what you want to own. That’s it..Simple as that..

Hey guys, I still used my humble F801s and D1..

I hope I have not in any ways made any offensive remarks to anyone, whether directly or un-intentionally. If I have, please accept my sincere apologies.

Happy shooting guys..!

KH

I guess as long as it's Nikon its significant. :bsmilie: this is brand loyalty. If it was from another camp, then it's not a big deal.

check out the New Black and White mode WOW! like I needed that!

Save/Load settings between multiple D2Xs cameras  this is good. When camera is down, just rent one and upload your settings.
