Wah 14 years old and 25k worth of D2x and lenses. I think you beat the 2 previous record holders of 16 years old and 1D2, and they only have a measly 300 f/2.8 and 500 f/4 respectively.

I nominate you as a Nikon moderator. ;)

moderator = having the best and most Nikon Nikkor?

ahhh... tongue-in-cheek, maybe? ;)

Well it is worth having a good camera if you a good photographer. It would be useless if the person does not know how to take a photo and is buying a super expensive camera. What matters is the person behind the camera.

If the person can tell me,"oh I got a Canon 1Ds MKII" and he does not know how to take a good photo  , it is totally useless.

how do you determine a good photo? ;p by your own guidelines or your customer's perceived guidelines? or the general photographer's guidelines?

I know of a baby girl, who has a rich grand daddy. When she was born a few years ago, they opened an account for her with 50K!

In this world, we have the 'haves', the 'have nots', and those who 'have more'.

Is it some tax-avoidance scheme? :)

isn't that suppose to be donation instead of giving to immediate family?

lighten up guys... b4 the mods step in again to shut this down... ;p

back to topic - eshotstudio, have u read any reviews on these 2 cameras yet? i dunno. browsing thru thus far, it seems u have very little idea wat these 2 cameras can or cannot do. they are 2 different cameras catered for 2 different purposes. D2X, by and large, is like the canon 1Ds or 1DsMkII, more for serious editorial/fashion photogs. D2H, like the canon 1DMkII, more catered for sports/news photogs. 1 is high MP, the other is a machine-gun. do u have any idea wat u are going to shoot most of the time?

oh yeah, glennyong. if u can find a H1 ard $25k, u let all of us know? dun BS. a working hassy pro told me once singapore has, so far, only 1 pro owning a H1. and, he's a internationally recognised master hassleblad photog.

ya, read them already and I'm settling for a Nikon D2X. I don't do sports photography, I am doing School Editorial, School Exhibition and Wedding photography so I need a higher MP count. And I really know what I am shooting for the everytime. Thanks for your help! :)

Professional Guideline(PG) is my own term that I use to critic a picture. I even use it to critic my own picture to improve my photographic skills.

The guidelines are as follows:

1) Composition? Is the image to cluttered etc.
2) What is the style? Snapshot? Reportage? Fashion? etc.
3) Who or What is the subject in the picture?
4) How well the photographer controls the medium?
5) How the well the photographer interpretes the picture or what is he trying to tell?

These are the 5 steps I use to critic a picture. ;)

Are you able to meet us either in SEED. Please look at this thread...

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=660

Or alternatively you can go to another meet which is NUG......

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=130538

Or alternatively you can join another meet which is called "BIJI".......

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showpost.php?p=1308958&postcount=903

Maybe that will be a better way to find out more about how to spend your $25,000 of your Singapore Dollars wisely.........or you can donate to any of us as we will know how to make full use of it.

Thank you for your time.

Go for D2X. You will not regret it. For me I choose the D2X path so that I wont have any worries about new camera and new technologies. The D2X will keep me fine tuning my knowledge and focus issues on skill improvement in learning photography for years to come. So far I am lucky not to have any issues with the camera. Good luck with whatever path you choose, the decision is yours. Choose wisely and try the products first before making the final decisions.

a few comment and questions for eshots:

may i know what set-up you are using now? you mentioned that you are already doing wedding photography...i don't know the full picture of course but if your current set-up is enough to make you that kind of money, perhaps you don't need an "upgrade" after all.

your main issue appears to be big prints and although MP count is not the only factor for big prints, it is surely an important one. if you are willing to consider D2Hs at 4.1 MP, then why not also consider D100 or D70s at 6MP?

it's a lot of money to spend for a person of any age, do consider carefully and seek lots of impartial advice from photographers as well as the approval of your family...

thanks timlim for your help. now i am in the process of reconsidering with my family. So if you say D100 and D70s, which of these 2 cameras have better specs in your point of view?
I am currently using film medium.

no worries...you can refer to this recent thread for some of the differences between D100 and D70/D70s:

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=132343

fujifilm S3pro is perhaps another option...look at http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=133305...i personally don't think it's fair to compare the S3 to the D2Hs as they are built for different things. i'd say the main selling point of the S3 is its sensor that offers great colour reproduction (a recent comparison in a reputable magazine rated this the best sensor over that of the canon 350D CMOS, pentax *ist, olympus, sigma foveon, and nikon d70 CCD). the S3 is a nikon mount camera.

take your time to try out the various cameras from shops (but be wary of their "advice" - they're after all trying to sell you something) or at some of the user groups as suggested by other CSers in this thread. don't be rushed into a decision.

Wow....

Just some personal views. Do disregard if u find offensive/long winded/etc.

After reading through this thread... i'm really surprized how fortunate our youngsters are nowadays....

I recently revisited my old alma mata in Dover to give a talk on my profession... upon visiting the teacher in charge of the sch newsppr and publication dept, 5 of her student "reporters" who were not more than sec 2, 3, turned up with D1x, D2hs, Mk IIs, and the "poorer" one using a D100, all decked out with an assortment of L and ED lenses that would make me "gian" gao siao.....
I asked the teacher if these were the sch's issue, and she said no... it was theirs.

But what really broke my heart was when I sat down with them for a Q&A session about PJism, all they seemed concerned about was the "latest" and "best" equipment there was out there, and some of them didn't even KNOW what terms like zone and dof were. They seemed almost "lost" in their own world of expensive, parent sponsored toys.

Not that I have a negative view on them, but honestly, whoa... a 14 yr old with a XXXX $ camera for school editorial shots?

And my... if u say you're into wedding photography, i really admire the couple's confidence in recruiting a photog who's not gone through his streaming for that one special day in their lives.(if there's even still streaming now.)

Well my friend... not that i'm doubting your ability, (Darn.. i wish i was in your shoes at your age) my advise for u at this point, is this... STARDY first... and though it's really your prerogative on what you want to spend your $$$ on, seriosly... money in singapore is not easy to earn, and having the budget of a down payment for a 4 room flat (25K?) to blow on equipment for a school mag and parttime wedding assignments... hmmmm
:what:

Of course... as it's under the guidance and sponsorship with your parents, do remember to confer with them on the advice you've received, and ultimately, their consent.

:)

Thanks for that useful advise I will bear that in mind. Actually I do not want expensive equipment but is just that I want to spend for once on a good equipment for use. Thanks anyway. :)
