anyway, wat size of memory stick you guys use? Is there any diff between using a ms pro or ms pro (high speed)? I read that there is no diff... true? :think:
btw, got myself a 4 million crumpler bag... fits jus nice with some additional room for personal stuff... great looking bag!!

I just use the 512mb ms pro given in the promotion. It's sufficient for all my outings except for my trip to the zoo. But I had a portable harddisk to backup the images while I make use of the 30mb built-in memory. 512mb should be good enough for most purpose except those full day outings or oversea trips, unless you take a lot of video. Regardless of media, it's always cheaper to get 1 or 2 memory cards and use a portable harddisk to back them up than to stock up equivalent gb in memory cards.
As for ms pro (high speed) check out this chart instead. Guess that H1 do benefit from the high speed ms pro but I think the speed advantage may mean only faster read and write time etc and do little to the slow frame rate in burst mode.

I bought it in Comex last year and it costs $240 then, I suspect it could be even cheaper now that almost 1/2 a year went by. It's a package that includes a 2.5" 80gb harddisk with housing (and installation) and an usb multicard reader. There's an external battery pack (runs on AA just like H1) to power it and a usb port for you to connect your card reader to or even connect directly to camera (or your thumbdrive). Hit the copy button and it will copy everything to the harddisk in individual folders like bckup001, bckup002 each time you do so. Of course, you can use this like any other portable harddisk and it draws power from 2 USB ports if you don't want to use the battery pack.
The only drawback is, at this price, you can't view your photos on the harddisk (not an issue to me). If you are willing to throw in a couple of hundreds more you can get one with LCD to view it. Will take a photo of the harddisk if you want and I'm free.
There are cheaper versions with smaller harddisk too.

Hi again, thanks for your reply. So the harddisk is a normal laptop harddisk, but the enclosure is a special one that could read-copy memory cards? I cant seem to find this thing in computer shops. What are they called? The ones I see people selling are normal harddisk enclosures that dont copy from memory cards

Above are the images of the portable harddisk, or Digital Camera Partner as they called it. The 2nd pic shows the screen to be "noisy" because the protective film is there to prevent scratches. Basically you just plug in your storage device like you do to a PC and hit the copy button. Comes with a pouch too. Runs on 4xAA batteries.
The card reader was bought seperately, the multicard reader is huge and not convenient to carry around. Alternatively you could carry the USB cable of your camera instead. I tried and it works just as well.
I bought my during Comex from Bell Systems Electronics, also found in Sim Lim Square #05-68, according to the invoice I kept. Do note that this version supports FAT32 only for one touch copy - means only 30gb to backup your photos directly. The other 50gb harddisk can only be accessed via PC. There's another version that costs about $40-$50 more that could use the whole 80gb harddisk.
There are other versions that have built in memory card readers on the enclosure but I find this type to be better for me. I can use it to backup thumbdrive and share files easily when doing project.

you know when we take nite scene, we tends to use slower shutter speed. And thus we uses the self timer to prevent camera shake when depressing the shoot button. Normally this is ok. But when we take things that are happening fast and furious, e.g. fireworks, the 10s timer on the H1 is too long to wait... is there any other technics to use?? I dun think there is a remote for the H1 rite?

Two suggestions.
1.) Make use of the slow auto focus. Just depress the shoot button fully and release. The camera will take about 1 sec to focus before taking the photo. But run the risk that the H1 chooses the wrong thing to focus. (Unlikely though)
2.) Make use of burst mode. At 5mp, H1 can burst 9 shots. Just press down the shoot button and hold your breathe while the camera takes all 9 shots on the tripod. Hopefully some of the shots will turn out fine. But only works up to 1/8 sec exposure, can't go slower.

think you can make use of the full 80gb.. you can format the whole partition as FAT32..
I have one OTG with 80gb and one compact drive with 80gb, both are FAT32 formatted and can be use to its full capability

I tried before but the harddisk keep giving me error when I use the one touch copy. After I partition them into 2 seperate harddisk it was okay. Perhaps it could be some other reasons...

Auto Focusing will take at least 0.5 sec unless you use spot or manual focus. Just practice and it makes perfect. Haha.. there could be a good use for slow focus afterall.
As for the 2nd method, maybe you can try with your aperture wide open and at higher ISO. Or perhaps you could find a use for this method in another event and let us know.
Great photos btw. Really got to try fireworks in the future
