[Introduction]

Spend an evening with photographer-artist, Paul Kohl, as he shares his perspective on his photography journey - his love for analogue photography, and the emergence of the digital medium. He has just published a monograph of work done in Japan titled “Two Fish. Out of Water.”, and exhibits his work internationally with recent shows in Japan, Canada, USA, Portugal, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Paul Kohl earned a BFA from the San Francisco Institute in Photography and his Master Degree from Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana, and has done an Artist Residency at Awagami Paper in Japan, the Hungarian Multi-cultural Center in Budapest and at the Obras Center for the Arts in Portugal.

He is now teaching photography at Nanyang Technological University/School of Art, Design and Media in Singapore where his current research is concerned with high-end inkjet printing and digital photography.

we will only "hold seats" for the registered until the beginning of the talk (around 6.30pm). thereafter, we'll let in the walk-ins... so feel free to pop in anytime (pending capacity constraints of the room).

die die must come
it should be a good talk / sharing. Paul will cover analog photography, digital photography, and even analog photography to digital prints - not nec as specific headers, but in terms of how he has have journeyed with his photography.

Nice guy, met him at chiif's place. Tried to entice him to open up a part time course on photography and printing for hobbyists, the response would sure be phenomenal. Link to his website below

Yes yes. Would be very keen on Printing course.

i'm not sure if he would be deliberately covering the film darkroom prints it talk, but there's always time to ask him either during the talk or in the Q&A. but he did say that that his talk would cover his work flow from analog negatives to digital prints, as he has invested much time researching high-end inkjet printing.

i'd suspect that the talk by Paul Kohl would be very interesting to RFers.

he did his early 35mm work with a Nikon SP, loaded with extremely high-speed Kodak film. he then moved to the TLR in the Mamiya C330, with Tri-X... which became a Hassey later on... he subsequently traded in his Hasselblad for Makina Plaubel 67 and shot in color. since then, he has bounced aronud the Hexar, M2, Fuji645, Bronica645...

through all this, he gradually moved from the darkroom prints to archival inks and paper with the use of Nikon 8000 film scanner and an Epson 7600 printer, such that the prints would rival black and white silver prints for long-term stability. with that, photoshop and lightroom slowly replaced the darkroom.

today, a lot of his work is done with a M9... info extracted from his bio on his website

he has lots of experience to share regarding the various rangefinders, both 135 and medium format, as well as the analog workflow and the digital workflow.

this should be a very interesting talk. so pls do join us!!

we will allow members of the public to attend (pending capacity limitations), but only when the talk starts. priority will be given to registered CSers to go in earlier to preview the Leica equipment, prints, mingle and enjoy the aircon.
