Ito combine both passions, a touring foldie is best choice IMO. Most countries accept them in their public transportation. Can choose cycling all the way or do cities hop if preferred. Also don't take too much storage space. Don't look down on foldie's speed, they can be just as efficient based on my road bike and foldie rides.

I am waiting to come back from USA and re-condition my old Hard Rock fixed frame and take it out for a ride... wonder how much will it cost to get new lights, brakes, wheels, grips and maybe even gears?

With so many parts to change, better off in getting a new bike. Maybe not worth it unless your frame is a vintage kind ! If you care only about performance and not brand, Polygon has real value for money. A lady rode that and can keep up with guys at 30+ km/hr...

Consider the frame you have now, Hard Rock is still a good frame from reputable brand. Changing items is as good as customising which is relativley more expensive when compared to kit bike. If you intend to go off road ( dirt track ), SLX group set will be a good choice, else it doesn't matter if it is only road ride. Can try Tiong Hin, C2C , they offer reasonable price. I think both have emails which you can send them your queries. Sometimes you still need to consider where, when and how you want to combine the 2 passions. Keeping an old frame may be a hindrance to what you want to pursue. I own hardtail, full sus, road bike and foldie. Foldie is the most flexible and relatively cheap too. Try Mybikeshop, C2C. Dahon has lower end foldie that may meet your budget.

US prices seem cheaper actually. I am considering getting parts shipped online.
Depends on what u want for parts. MTB parts i dunno, but atas carbon fibre parts or special custom made ones can be stratospherical

how much would a 2nd hand GT avalanche 1.0 early 2009 cost? the bike in good condition...
i need agar agar estimate of the price..

Between $500-$600 and must be still good condition ! Purchasing 2nd hand abit tricky, hopefully the bike is from original owner and not stolen property ! Good Luck !

Any one keen in going to Myanmar for cycling and photography in mid Dec ? Temperature around 15 to 30 deg. Total distance is approx 670 km for 9 and half days ride with max distance of 120km in one trip, rest are ok...Total trip need 14 days, including rest days with support vehicle.

Yes ,most likely. Trek 4300. I hope they offer at least Trek 4500. But you can always bring your own bike. I won't be bringing mine as it's hard to find anyone acapble of servicing Cannondale. MTB is a must ! Did you tour Myanmar before ? Starting my training soon.:bsmilie:
