I used the 15-85 before and loved it! The deal breakerfor me is the variable aperture though. However on a cropped body would still recommend it over the 24-105. Best is the 17-55 for cropped.
No problemNice to know. Will surely consider this.thanks bro

Will a 15-85mm be enough for a landscape, street and portrait photography? Or should i just stick to my 18-135mm and buy a 10-22mm canon or a 11-16mm tokina.

Valkarian said:Hmm. If the 18mm isnt wide enough for you, I doubt a general purpose lens with 15mm will be. Since you already have the 18-135 kit lens, I suggest you get a 10-22 or a 17-40.

:dunno:
Hi bro, thanks for the 'revival' haha, at first I thought of getting the 10-22, but how often is it i go UWA, and besides it will take aeons for me to save up, so the next lens im targeting is the 70-200 f4 IS, then after that maybe a 1.4 prime....for me the 10-22 will be a white elephant. Btw, you own a 15-85 right?
Hi again bro, but won't you be missing the range from 55mm to 70mm? Also, I prefer medium telephoto for my general walkabout lens, which is why I'm set on the 15-85.
This is a lot like my thinking/reasoning. I'm shooting a crop camera (40D) and I have and use a 24-105L extensively but finding that I bump into a constraint at the wide end quite often now. I also have a 55-250 for tele which is just fine because I seldom shoot in the tele range. What I have decided to do is sell my 24-105L and replace it with the 15-85. I'll then have 15-85 and a nice overlap with 55-250 so I'll have 15-250 covered with just 2 lenses. Then I'm planning on adding a fast prime for indoor/low light shooting and that will be my lens kit.
DigitalCamera said:Haha I see! The 15-85 is really a great lens for crop cameras, cos the 24-105L really is quite tight at the wide end, considering it becomes 38.4mm. I don't really use tele, but the times I do use them, I long for the IQ of the 70-200 series. The IQ for my 55-250 is mediocre, but the details wont be there when I crop it. Really rather soft. It focuses quite slow too. Now, 70-200 once I have saved enough....?
Dead on for the 55-250. Just fine and nice and sharp on computer screen and small prints, and mine actually focuses nice and fast (and I'm used to the 24-105) and the IS is very good, but when I look at shots 100% size you can see the softness that would be evident if cropped and blown up.
DigitalCamera said:Exactly! I have to avoid cropping pictures taken with the 55-250 as much as possible, and even if I do I crop a little only, if not the picture will be REALLY soft, and details are so washed out.
I wonder if a custom picture profile in the camera to increase sharpness, contrast and saturation would improve results. All you'd have to do is select that profile whenever you have the 55-250 installed? Hhmmm, I' going to give that a try myseld.
