You can look at it as an investment with very low return (in terms of photos). I could've put the capital into something else with better return, for example a UWA lens. Thus there's an opportunity cost to that capital. Moreover, equipment can breakdown simply from prolonged idling. I don't want such a wonderful lens to go to waste.

oic....for me I dont think of so much...I rather have it there in case i nid it 1 day otherwise when needed then go find/get 1 so troublesome lol :P

More often than not, the "1 day" never comes. Don't tie down your money in gear.

eh. i started off with tele lens. most tele have an element of GP about them lol.

Starting with a 70-200 f/2.8L is quite unconventional if you asked me. Then again, who knows what shooting style I'll develop if I was restricted to a narrow field of view right from the start?

I suppose having a telephoto lens alone could cause you to be more creative, since you have a tight field of view from the start. And Merry Christmas to all! :vhappy:

I'm on the same boat now choosing between the 15-85 or the 24-105. I used to have the 10-22 but didn't used that much. My shooting style has changed greatly since I had a baby. I used to have the UWA for landscape shooting but since then I find myself just shooting portraits and family shots, streets, etc...

Restricting myself now between these 2 lenses. Still contemplating which one would benefit me in the long run. Thinking of renting first too as I have a KL trip soon.

Hey bro, do you find 24mm wide enough for you? If you prefer more on the telephoto end and don't mind losing out on the wide end, then the 24-105 is for you. But if you need a relatively wide lens, then the 15-85 does the job. For me I found 24mm rather tight, so I went for the 15-85.

Love my 24-105mm, it is one of the better IQ zooms lens while wide open. if you are into landscape and often shoot in tight small room, think 15-85mm is the choice. I neber use 15-85mm before but looking at the review of this lens, it is good. if you have plan to move to FF body, you may as well choose 24-105mm.

oh i still have my kit lens 18-55mm for normal landscape photo. if you noe the pro and con of this lens, this lens just works well :) but i dun mind to own 10-22 for my crop body or 16-35mm for my future FF body :X

The 24mm is not wide enough for me too. My style of shooting is landscapes to baby portraits. However, I want to get a standard zoom lens that can go wide without the need to getting a UWA lens and ability to isolate objects or for portrait shooting. I do have prime lenses to complement it but I just need a zoom lens to back me up for travel, etc. by the way, 17-55 is not option here as I used to have that lens but I felt the focal length is a little short for my liking....

I thought of the 24-105 good being with a more superior optics I believe... Given an L lens. I lose the wide end but in return would give me better iq. Correct me if I'm wrong...

This is one of the factors why i'm considering this lens too. You may never know when the day will come that I'll finally move to FF.

The trio of 10-22, 17-55 and 15-85 has the same exotic glass elements like the L lenses and are known to perform as good as their FF L counterparts.

Buy what you need now. Good quality lenses are easy to sell when you want to replace them with FF equivalents. In the meantime, why should you compromise?

The IQ from the 15-85 is comparable if not even better than that of a 24-105 on a APS-C body.

I have to say 15-85 IQ is very good. Love it. Very useful range just like 24-105 on FF.

Which has better IQ? Have to do a one to one compare to find the answer.
