Crave: Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3 prices out for Asia

i am going to HK this sept  hmm this cam looks good as a backup haha

OK la. Been expecting around 1k.

The 16mm Nex 5 pricing is out of my expectations . I thought it will be below the 1k region. With the pricing looks like its not going to be much cheaper than Oly EPL :bheart:

Have to reconsider my purchase plans , or get Nex 3

nex 5 dual lens kit is cheaper than gf1 20mm kit that i used to have so is ok for me... now waiting for stores to have stock

just now go courts, saw panansonic's GF1(16mm) @$1499.
looks like m43 will kena squeez.

Yeah I guess its comparatively cheap , perhaps I was too naive that Sony will launch the prices under 1k for the 16mm pancake

I wasn't naive....just hopeful...
Now agonising to bite the bullet and get it or wait a few months for prices to drop a little.
I really prefer not to bring my Pentax K7 along for my trip as I am afraid of losing it along with my premium lenses. The cost can buy 2 Nex5! :bsmilie: if the diff between Nex3 and Nex5 only $100+, I will go for the Nex5. :) arggggg!

hk price better, i would rather take a trip to hk and buy there.

i thought i saw NEX 3 + pancake going for $750+ in hk...... someone put it somewhere before.

btw, that is RRP, not street price ;)

So nex3 is sold already in HK? or is this price just sony say during the press conference?
I am going to HK next week, hopefully this price is true..

Me think, Sony's NEX and M4/3 are aiming at a different kind of people. But then, if I got the money and want a small, light, and simple camera (like a P&S) with dSLR image quality, then sure buy NEX.

I would consider this NEX as more of a good videocam that can take great still photos!!!

In the current market for consumer videocam, I dun think there is a match for NEX for:
1) Big sensor
2) DSLR photo quality
3) Interchangable lens
4) affordable price for a videocam

mmm but have noticed that a lof initial interest in nex comes from the established photo community, i.e. the same group who got into m43 initially etc or those already with dslr... im guessing most of the nex buyers will be current dslr owners

i dun feel targetting the pns crowd will work very well... most of the normal pns folk i know have it in their minds that they want big dslr's next because the "pros" (rather, most everyone else) use them... none of them interested in the m43 when i showed it to them because they wanted a more "pro" camera hehe... i kinda feel they'll have the same feeling towards nex...

Don't just read the specifications and reviews. Try the camera yourself to decide. It is worth to try SAMSUNG EX1 if you want cost effectiveness.

Cheers!

Attended Sony NEX launch event in Malaysia on 4th June.

NEX5 c/w kit 18-55 M$ 2699
NEX3 c/w kit 18-55 M$ 1999

huh? we actually tried the cam during the pre-launch events

sadly, samsung's initial effort is already DOA... didnt even register a blip in most folk's radars... sony showed them how to do it, lots of buzz and lots of good initial
reviews/impressions

You are probably referring to the NX10 while psalm27 is referring to the EX1. The EX1 is however not a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera but a P&S and not in the same league as the NX10 or NEX insofar as image quality is concerned.

I really like the NX10 though... mainly because the lenses are good and so is the image quality. Unfortunately Samsung did not do a good job marketing it. There is also a lot of difficulty getting accessories like lenses and flash.

Buy from Hong Kong got warranty coverage in Singapore?
Any recommendations which shop to buy from Hong Kong?
;p

Well, men's hobbies are never cheap.

Cameras, phones, computers, women....

Haha, 4 Cs of men's hobbies...

Cameras, Cell-phones, Computers, & Char-bor!:bsmilie:

Yes, SAMSUNG EX1 is a PnS camera and not the same league as the Compact with Interchangable lens like GF1, E-P1, etc. But it is worth a try and you'll be surprise. The quality of the lens is much better than the lens that comes with NEX.

NEX5 c/w kit 18-55 M$ 2699
NEX3 c/w kit 18-55 M$ 1999

Malaysia price so much different from what I was quoted in Hong Kong.
NEX5 c/w kit 18-55 M$ 2699=S$1147
NEX3 c/w kit 18-55 M$ 1999=S$850

Saw an advert outside a shop in in Hong Kong, went in and was quoted
NEX5 w dual lens HK$6290=S$1141
NEX5 w one lens HK$5290=S$959
NEX3 w dual lens HK$5290=S$959
Didn't ask price of NEX3 with one lens.

The salesman sound so professional when discussing the camera and quoted the price with reference from his computer. But do forgive me if the pricing I got is wrong.

The Malaysia's price difference for the Nex 3 and 5 is a staggering $300 compared to SG's $200.
