Dear All

Would like to share my recent trip to Penang. This is the first time i went fully analog with a MF as well as a RF as a back up. It took me awhile to decide to leave my DSLR at home and just shoot film...
It was a family trip and at times have to take care of my nephew so i didnt know if i did the right thing...but i just went along with my Yashica 124G.

I managed to finish up just 36 shots(Fuji NPC 160 220mm format (Expired 2002) and a roll of Acros 120mm), of which, most turned out well...

So pardon my pictures here, still quite new to MF..
Did a more comprehensive write up on my blog, if you are interested to read more...will share the pictures here..
My Camera & I: Medium Format at Penang - Cultural Rich Chinese Heritage

We stayed at Gurney Beach Resort(Located at Lim Chin Guan Road) and had the seaview of the Beach everyday. I was lucky to spot the blue sky and clear water...

The good and bad thing about Penang is that its really hot. So hot that you will melt after awhile walking there...the good thing is that the lighting is extremely good...especially on ISO 100 film.

Penang Khoo Kongsi is one of them and is a part of the ‘Goh Tai Seh’ (five big clans) that formed the backbone of the Hokkien community in olden-days Penang.

This place lights up in the evening.

Kapitan Keling Mosque

Penang’s first-ever mosque built in the 19th century, which is also the largest and one of the oldest mosques in town.
This was also where i had a heart attack when my film advance got jammed...after a double exposure shuttering, its back to normal....and my heart beat was normal too...

The Goddess of Mercy Temple in Penang George Town or fondly known locally as 'Kuan Yin Teng' in Hokkien dialect.

There are a few beggars are surrounding this temple...

I didnt really get alot of coverage on street...i might be at the wrong time or wrong place but out of 5 shops, only 1 was open during day time...and there wasnt much activities on the street either...it was a quiet town

The good thing is, i own the streets and have the luxury of time to cover small little areas...

Really liked your shots here, especially the colored ones! The last one has a great 'mood' to it :)

Well done lah brother!

There are also many old houses. I think you were short of time right?

Thanks Jon..yea u r right, my family wasnt really interested in all these..but they tried to come along for those heritage places..street wise, they prefer to be in shopping mall away from the hot weather..
I only had a great 2hr session to walk around alone.

Haha i picked my most reliable n lightest weight tlr...my minolta jammed in malacca once...its a nightmare.

Nice pictures! I am so tempted to go Penang now!:bsmilie:
Its a nice place if u have the time..George town is pretty quiet at some days..
Unlike malacca places to places might need cab..instead of walking..

very nice. I love the temple shots especially.

You managed to capture the essence of the Penang ( the Peranakan Culture ), and that is the most important part of it all.

well done bro,
Billy

thanks Billy...so lucky to bump into u yesterday!

early morning might be a better time, especially around the markets (campbell, chowrasta etc). I like the 1st pic on Goddess of Mercy Temple :)

I want to stay there a week and have a local friend to help......n

The expired Fuji NPC 160 has gorgeous vintage tones, especially so with the second and last photos. Nice!

I've yet to travel with MF gear but I would rather bring back 36 top memories/vignettes rather than 360 digital photos that go straight to DVD, never to be seen again :)

BTW who did the developing and scanning?
