Countdown for the coming Nikon cam

It is always tempting to get the latest digital camera in the market, including this new Nikon DSLR. I wonder if the picture quality we gain is proportional to the continuous spending on the latest DSLR. I have been using D100 eversince it was first available in the market. Although the newer Nikon DSLRs have more functionality, but my guess is that we do not use them often or if we ever use it at all.

The key thing is that whatever digital camera you have use it to the most, and unless you have a good reason to change, stick with it. I still believe the key is the person behind the camera.

This is just my opinion.....

no lah. i only got d2x, 17-55, FE, 50mm and sb800. enough for me to play long long time. i have less equipments than many others. i think my total investment is much lesser than many of the photographers here. hee.

The trick is to not buy new but used. A D100 is significantly cheaper now than what you would have paid for it new. Probably a third of the cost.

If you do not use a camera often, why spend thousands on something that devalues so quickly? You'd be better off with a film camera. A film camera loaded with slide film still outperforms the best dSLR anyday.

You are right when you say that you should use a digital camera as much as you can.

So what I am supposed to do now........initially planning to get the D200.
Wait for this new baby or stick with the original plan :dunno:

Is the D200 going to be cheaper? ;)

Before buying/upgrading your DSLR, please also consider that most of the time you will ended up buying new accessories, batteries, etc, etc.. the list goes on so does your spending. You may also ended up buying more CF as the new DSLR may take twice the size of the memory.

I do not intend to make this thread digital vs film, but if you continue upgrading DSLRs, you may ended up spending more than just shooting film/slide. You can use the money to buy good lenses instead! or travel to exotic places to take more pictures.

I hope my insight will help you decide:

agreed with your last para.

why worry about value drop? yes. i am enjoying every minute of my cam andhave been using intensively , a lot of times, ha ha......

the reason why i dun care about value drop is bcos i target 10 years of usage. by then, my cam will not be able to fetch any price. but i am not worried - bcos if my cam can still operate after 10 years, i will continue to use it.

i am going to keep it for life.

i dun bother when my fren bought newer cam that has higher iso, less noise, more MP, FF , faster etc etc.........

bcos i am shooting for myself and not for customers. therefore, no need to please customers about higher MP. hee

i agreed that he may end up buying more memory card, when the camera become from 6MP to 10MP to 16MP to 24MP.......not only memory cards, hgiher CPU power for their comp to view and open the files for editing, more HDD spaces, more DVD storage etc.

and more disk space for RAW shooters.......

might be a D50s? Hard to say ya.. but its seen that D50 come out for quite some time already..:dunno:

Then Heng for me, cos I don't need the extra Mega Pixels. Damned happy with my D50 now.

sliver shutter button, so I dont think it would be in the d200 class range.

Wah, almost bought the D70s last weekend. Now have to wait for the see the new one. Thanks for the update.

19 days from today... (9th August !!!)

Would our govt be giving all citizens this in its goodie bag :dunno:

So pro, how? What cards are you using huh? :D

Sometime in August...

http://www.nikon-euro.com/DoesNotDisappoint/ - keep speaker volume down

Pixel resolution to match the D200, but certainly not to replace that model.
I would speculate a plastic (polycarbonate) body too.
A larger LCD with higher resolution?
RGB histogram would be nice!
I hope it retains the 1/500 flash synch of the D70/s.

Any other guesses....?

Let the speculation begin!
