Newguy69,

Thanks for being supportive.

Avatar/Harlequin,

Agreed, my friends. Nature photography has the ability to create nature awareness and save lives when work along side nature conservation related bodies, naturalists, biologists, environmentalists and scientists etc. Which is why it is so meaningful.

kongg,

Thanks for the comments.

Cheers! :)

Recent reports indicated that authorities (some of them are supposed to promote nature conservation!) have cut down trees where the herons and egrets have been nesting. They have also smoking trees where the birds are roosting in the evening. Most of the birds are not nesting or roosting in those areas anymore. It was also mentioned that gunmen have been hired to kill these magnificent birds.

Hi SK, I'm very concern when we used the word authorities, which reports you are talking abt & from where the report source those info?

skyflash/FujiS2,

Thanks for the interest. Due to sensitivity of the issue, I will not mention names or make reference to any reports. I hope you can understand.

The reason for this posting is to encourage nature lovers who can help HeronWatch to step forward while at the same to share with friends in this forum some images of grey herons that I captured.

Cheers!

Hi skfoo,

I'm interested but I'm not here during this period so please keep me informed about another one of these events.

Thanks,
Nick

SK, the reason I asked is because the issue r so sensitive, which authorities do ppl think have the right to cut down trees & suppose to do the conservation work in Singapore? Unless you can prove yr source or ppl will say that your are creating rumours... I'm asking coz I dun want to see at the end ppl pointing finger at each other, hope you can understand that & give a better explaination.

I don't think SK has to substantiate. Rumours? You haven't been reading even the Straits Times, have you? I am even contemplating to sell my CC membership!

DHSC76,

Thanks!

FujiS2,

I do not wish to see this thread being turned into a thread filled with arguments whether to prove something or defend myself. You came into my thread and I hope you will respect my wishes. As far as your query goes, this is where it will end. You hardly know me but thanks for your concern on what people will think of me. Those who know me and my credentials..…well..they know me :) .

Finger pointing? That’s considered an art in the field of politics but not in the World of Nature. As far as I know, it's not welcome here.

Thanks for the interest!

Cheers!

skfoo ...... plz pardon my straight talk. neutral opinion .... i dun c y u cant provide a source of the news or info? I reckon the news r found publicly? plz enlighten ....

Just to contribute ... I have spotted White Herons and a handful baby grey herons ( about 10) at around Punggol Park. Seems to fly from neighbouring undeveloped vegetation that is soon destined to be a HDB flat ... I think.

Infact, spotted a couple of herons flying around the undeveloped land in between the road leading from the Fernvale area to Seng Kang area.

Hope this helps. :)

I think Punggol that area bo bian, we really need more land for housing. Just don't encroach into the sanctuaries and designated green pockets.

Just anyhow whack on Google and search pages in SIngapore only option yielded this :

I don't think there will be any "official" reports esp from the authorities, this kind of thingy is usually low profile. At least for the Kranji case, i guess there is some conservation : http://www.esrcc.com.sg/news/kranji.html

PS. I am not even a naturalist, i only keep South and Central American cichlids and i like to take photos. Damn, even my cichlasoma dovii (supposed to be extremely hardy) died last week...

Hi all,

Anyone staking out Lor Halus tomorrow morning?

Cheers!

I will be covering the Hougang canal tomorrow evening. ;)

I'll probably be at SBWR with my 70-200 f/4. Probably will photograph nothing spectacular, but I'll lend my eyes. :)

You are top of my "lovely people" list.
We also have such beautiful birds here in Australia
I will help all I can from here Skfoo.

Pablo,

Thanks for the support and kind words.

Cheers! ;)

Bro...is the first pic the Black Crowned Night Heron?

I got some shots of Purple and the Black Crowned, Great Egret and Little Egret. And 1 botak stork which i need you to ID. :D

And i dropped my sigma 50-500 + D70 onto the carpark hard ground from the top of the car. (Corolla, 1.49m high) :sweatsm: Chipped the front part of the lens as it landed lens first (the lens cap flew some 20m away)....but still continued shooting, nothing spoilt. Sigma lenses are great!
So next time don't put the damn setup on its tripod collar + QR onto any car surface and slam the door shut. :embrass:

Oh my god! I hope your lens and camera is okay. I always make it a habit to put my setup on a secure surface. If there's really no place, I will open up the boot and place it there or mount it onto my tripod.

2100,

Was the questions meant for me? :D

That must be very painful. Good to know that the equipments continue to function.

Best regards.
