could it be CCD problem?

My E-330 have 2 on long exposures. You can actually see it on my IR shots.

i just took a few more test shot just now...IS the SAME....between 1.6 - 3.2s whether NR on or off, the result is the same hot pixel all over but the NR will effectively work when the exposures set at 4s and above...so software problem or what? anyway i am really pissed and had sent a message to Oly Japan last nite for this damn issue.

My E-500 also has a number of hot pixels for long exposures, but with NR on, they are cleaned up. Mine is new , less than 500 shots. Wonder if the problem will arise with age.

I also have a D50, find that night images are much better with the Nikon. Out of camera jpegs for day shots, Oly colours is superior though.

the problem is why it cant remove only when set at 1.6 -3.2s exposures? NR need time to kick in? hot pixel remove effectively when set at 20s though...nvm, cant expect much from local service ctr...

will try taking some shots at 1-3 sec and get back here again

NR should be done right after the pix is taken. That's why picture taking time is approximately doubled before its saved to CF card. But then again, it's up to the algorithm to trigger NR. Maybe it's programmed to kick in after 3 sec or more of exposure? I have never really checked this on my E-330 but I do notice the red 'activity' LED blinks longer when NR is activated, even when 1sec or faster shutter speed is used -so I usually turn off NR to be able to do 'burst'/sequential shots (in good light).

dont turn on NR unnecessary...slow write to CF and eat up your capacity of CF too...72pic vs 58pic for 1 GB CF with RAW setting.

Oh sorry. I wasn't telling you to "always use NR" if that was how my post was read.
In fact, I use it only 0.001% of the time so far. I even turned it off to capture fireworks because the pause from NR makes it difficult to capture nice fireworks at the right time (something's happening and you can't take a pix because NR is busy with the camera!).

received reply from Jp oly service n they destressed by my desatifaction about service ctr here n will email for detail...

n i also call oly spore n am asked to bring the cam back with my last job order for check..

Great to know that! Hope they manage the fix your stuck pixels the second time around.

For me, well, I hope the third time's a charm. But maybe I should just buy lottery.

Just took 6 exposures out of my window at 2.5 to 3.2 sec, ISO 250, NR on, with the 40-150mm on my E-500.
Every single shot got red and blue hot pixels, but visible only at 100%.
Drewdam, you are not alone.

received reply from JP oly, NR only work 4s n above...:(

Ok, so stop down until exposure >4 sec, problem solved.

not a solution. So if drew on a holiday to some waterfall area and want to shoot soft shots, 1~2 sec, Lots of post processing just to clean up them hot pixels..

Waterfall shots, at night?

Sorry, that is not a very good advice. NR should work regardless of the exposure time and if it is possible to stop down or not should be up to the photographer. There is no such advice or information in the manual saying that NR works only with >4sec shutter speed.

Ain't advice from me per se.

I'm merely taking what JP Oly said, and using it to suggest a solution around the problem. :bsmilie:

Pro-ness!

Blu could have taken it out of context and meant slow-shutter moving water shots in daytime.

I've done that with a 1 - 2 sec exposure, but no hot pixel problem with either my E-1 or E-300.

this is the reply i received..

and also local service manager ask me to bring back my cam with my job order again for check...now am not sure whether to send in or not ...WTH.

Dear Mr. XXX,

Thank you for your further explanation on the conditions of your E500.

On considering your information on the CCD, our specialist indicates as follows.

The Noise Reduction is designed to work from 4 seconds.
This seems to be the reason that you found many noise (hot pixels) at 1.6 to 3.2 sec. where the NR does not function.

The problem of your CCD may not be solved even if your camera CCD is replaced.

For your information, Olympus Hong Kong and China has jurisdiction over sales and after-sale services in Asia including Singapore.
