My E-500 also has a number of hot pixels for long exposures, but with NR on, they are cleaned up. Mine is new , less than 500 shots. Wonder if the problem will arise with age.
the problem is why it cant remove only when set at 1.6 -3.2s exposures? NR need time to kick in? hot pixel remove effectively when set at 20s though...nvm, cant expect much from local service ctr...

NR should be done right after the pix is taken. That's why picture taking time is approximately doubled before its saved to CF card. But then again, it's up to the algorithm to trigger NR. Maybe it's programmed to kick in after 3 sec or more of exposure? I have never really checked this on my E-330 but I do notice the red 'activity' LED blinks longer when NR is activated, even when 1sec or faster shutter speed is used -so I usually turn off NR to be able to do 'burst'/sequential shots (in good light).

dont turn on NR unnecessary...slow write to CF and eat up your capacity of CF too...72pic vs 58pic for 1 GB CF with RAW setting.

Oh sorry. I wasn't telling you to "always use NR" if that was how my post was read.
In fact, I use it only 0.001% of the time so far. I even turned it off to capture fireworks because the pause from NR makes it difficult to capture nice fireworks at the right time (something's happening and you can't take a pix because NR is busy with the camera!).
received reply from Jp oly service n they destressed by my desatifaction about service ctr here n will email for detail...
n i also call oly spore n am asked to bring the cam back with my last job order for check..
Just took 6 exposures out of my window at 2.5 to 3.2 sec, ISO 250, NR on, with the 40-150mm on my E-500.
Every single shot got red and blue hot pixels, but visible only at 100%.
Drewdam, you are not alone.
not a solution. So if drew on a holiday to some waterfall area and want to shoot soft shots, 1~2 sec, Lots of post processing just to clean up them hot pixels..
Waterfall shots, at night?
Sorry, that is not a very good advice. NR should work regardless of the exposure time and if it is possible to stop down or not should be up to the photographer. There is no such advice or information in the manual saying that NR works only with >4sec shutter speed.Ok, so stop down until exposure >4 sec, problem solved.
received reply from JP oly, NR only work 4s n above...![]()
Pro-ness!
