It does not make sense to buy one lens that will be sitting inside the drycabi most of the time. That's y I have changed my mind for not buying the 70-200mm F4L IS last time after selling my Tamron 70-300mm. End up I bought the 55-250mm IS only.
Now I am wondering whether I should buy the 17-40mm F4L or 17-55mm F2.8 IS to replace my Tamron 17-50mm F2.8.

Do u use the range of 70-200mm regularly?
I intend to get the 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM due to its fast AF as compared to my Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8. But it is a EF-S lens, so I need to think twice b4 I buy that.
17-40mm F/4L looks interesting also as it can be used to full frame camera later. Not need to sell due to the upgrade.

Go for 17-55mm, if you intend to stick with 1.6 crop sensors.

7D price won't go down even if the rumoured 60D is out. It's a league in its own class.
