Tell us, how is the performance of the TVSIII?

Hi, just got a Contax N1 w 24-85 zoom, for the autofocus. Also using Leica R system w prime lenses.

V logical camera to use - hardly read instruction manual. Lense zoom range is ideal for me - only the focusing screen could be brighter.

The photos (portraits, family, beach subjects) are excellent - super sharp and great colour. More contrasty compared to the artistic feel of my Leica photos. Coz of the autofocus I get more shots and more confirmed shots v the Leica.

Can't wait for N1 Digital replacement and would consider discountinued N1D.

Great to see some other Contax fans around. Greetings from rainy San Francisco.

Contax SLR stuff I use:
N1
N1 Digital on the way :D
Aria
ST

All around, I love the equipment. I also use Nikon and Leica gear and each has it's place.

Take care!

Kent

ME ME ME.....camera model not included above...167MT :bsmilie:

I heard the 167MT is one of the most problematic contax body ever made. MT stands for "most troublesome"? :bsmilie:

I can't imagine what "ST" can mean! :bsmilie:

Humble Contax SLR user here: RTS II & 137MA.

CZ Lenses: 15/3.5; 28/2; 35/1.4; 85/1.4; 100/2; 100/2.8 Marko. All made in West Germany

HI YOL925,
I believe any contax owner will admire your lens collection. :p
It is still possible to get hold 15/3.5 lens? and where can I get one?

hi guys, me a contax user too. have a 167MT and yes, most troublesome is the right short form for it man. the most common problem for me is the batteries. sometimes when i on it, the LCD keeps flashing. change new batteries also like that. sometimes can be solved by pulling out and putting back the batteries. sometimes cannot. so i pull my hair... hahaha... but cz lens are really good. that's why looking around for a new camera body but wa liao all super expensive...

Changing this to a Contax users list should be better, we'll see more of others.

Me currently using a Contax Aria. Have sampled the following lenses i.e. D28f2.8, T45f2.8, P50f1.4, P50f1.7, S85f2.8, VS28-70f3.5, VS35-70f3.5 and VS70-200f4. Yashica ML lenses include 24f2.8, 55f2.8, 100f3.5 and 28-50f3.5. Of course the Contax lenses are preferable because of the colour, but when you use film like Kodak's UC400, the difference to the colours do not appear to be that obvious. I have also tried the T3 with its S35f2.8, TVSII with its VS28-56f3.5, G2 with B21f2.8, B28f2.8, P45f2, S90f2.8 and VS35-70f3.5.

Now thinking of moving on to the N series because I need the autofocus, but not sure if I should do it.
I think you mean contrast, which makes the colours appear more vivid, more punchy and that's why when using films like Fuji Reala, Kodak VC other brands also appear more contrasty (punchy). This happens even when using films like Kodak T-Max, which is contrasty and detailed (some like it, some don't :) ). Again the differences can be seen when side by side comparison is done.

Also the Contax lenses, render shadow details really well (see I avoided the word "better" so I don't get flamed :) ).

Not sure if it's still available new (even if it is, likely to cost a bomb, like ~$9K ?!) IIRC, there is a used one available at TCW recently, at somewhat affordable price. check it out.

When you decide to sell a lens, the best way to see whether that lens was useful during its time with you, is to inspect the ratio of "keepers shots" by the $$ that you paid.. i.e. 5 keepers / $4000 = 1 keeper per $800..

Be wary of delicacies that melt in your mouth :)

Don't know if it help, but have you tried cleaning the battery contact points?

Hi Marios,
I am looking to buy one, not sell.
Anyway, the prices of these lens really scares me :(

Maybe we should organise a photo shoot soon for all the Contax Owners here....what say you brothers/Sisters (if any).....hehe.

Honestly, I think that a Contax section is a waste of time. It should be expanded to a Zeiss section, after all, the zeiss glass is the reason why we buy into Contax right?

So many offerings now, Canon's 350D has tempted me a lot, maybe should get this body plus an adpater to use my contax glass?

An another offering, the Zeiss Ikon glass samples.
