Ahem! I quote "I personally saw how my auntie had paid her way thru her dialysis without help from NKF,. Yeah I was angry cause they did not help her out, but then I thought things out. I know that they can well afford to pay for pte dialysis, why should they burden the system. "

The system have 40 years reserve.. and a 12 month bonus package... how much burden will it be? Based on ratio and proportion, isnt your aun't expenses just sesami seed?

it might be sesame seed, but i am glad that my aunt's immediate family rally together and pay for her medical bill, instead of taking another person's chance at it.

You're not kidding? Here is one link:

COME N CLICK ME BABY

another one from the blog of an ex-NKF staff got removed but she also mention that she have to stop supporting a patient because he did not pay the minimum of 6 months... when the story went public, NKF apologize and blame the staff (which is her and her boss). So she quit after that.

There are people who earn less, i know of a family who has one sole breadwinner and the monthly income is 1500 for 6 persons. If given a choice, i would rather give the support to this family than the one mention in the forum. At least she has someone to help her with medical bills.

( I seemed so heartless  )

BTW I don’t think democracy is to follow the will of the majority.
U cannot just ask me to be silent, while I stand and see what I felt is wrong happening.

Democracy does not ask one to be silent. Democracy allows and encourages differences in opinions. However, in issues of law and order, the interests of the majority will have to be the determining factor. This of course is not the issue here.

I say again, I respect your intentions to help the poor, although I differ from you in that I do not expect returns. I understand the plight of the less fortunate. Years ago, I gave up a good job to work with the Vietnamese boat people and the Hmong (Miao) refugees (some of you may be too young to know those events). (My only regrets? Was not interested in photography then! Sigh!)

NOW, the issue is not asking you or Adam not to help the less fortunate. But to think ahead so that in the future, the donations from you and fellow donors will be better managed. Is this not something good?

You are right again to be concerned that if all stop their donation, the kidney sufferers will be the victims from the backlash. But what have been said here is that you, and Adam, and others like you, have misplaced concerns. Irrespective of the calculations, conservatively speaking, the reserves of NKF, will have more than enough to treat many kidney patients for many years.

I do not want NKF to fold up. I think NKF have done well in building up reserves. The means of course can be questioned, using lies (exaggerating the numbers of patients, the amount needed etc) and capitalising on the kindhearted nature of donors. But I want NKF to be careful with the money. I want NKF to be transparent with how things are done. Right now, NKF have started a process to defend themselves, ignoring all the nonsense they had created in and out of court. They are STILL UNREPENTENT! They are STILL RECALCITRANT! You know, the difference between the Germans and the Japanese on their roles in WWII?

I am waiting to give some directors a piece of my mind (I know some of them).

But I think you should think whether you should continue to give them your support at this point of time, which actually amounts to you agreeing with their way of doing things. Nobody would force you to do things you think are wrong. But ask yourself the implication of your continuing support.

NKF will not know what you are thinking, or your concerns. But when you give your support at this time, it will mean to them, that you endorse their ways of doing things. Do you want that?

Think again. Do not disagree for the sake of disagreeing.

Yes you do seems heartless. My POV.

(1) Why do we have to choose between the 2 instead of using the 40yrs reserve? Is it more important to save an imaginary patient in the future than save someone now?

(2) Why not choose between paying $25K bonus that you think he rightfully deserve instead of giving to this person who you think don't deserve because she have someone to help her anyway?

Nisa, Nisa - is she really that young and naive

Freely taken, freely give...

Nisa, wouldn't you think that your aunt will be happier if she does not have to rely on her family to help? The donation is meant to help those in need so why give it as a subsidy? From all the information gathered, the subsidy is only one third of the required expenditure. The patient still have to fork out two third. The interest generated by $262 million alone @ 3% is around 7 - 8 million, that should go to the patient and not into their bonuses. It is our money that generate the interest and don't forget, I donate without any conditions with my donation so why does NKF have to impose theirs to those who need help?

if you admit your mistakes like the Germans, ppl will forgive you and move on...

if you hide and twist the facts like the Japanese, ppl will be outrage and angry.

go on, denial is the best form of defense.

I agree with you. If he can generate a larger sum in return for the money he is being paid, he is well worth the money.

Do you mean if a person is a liar and cheater, and he can generate a larger sum in a bad way, by exploiting public kindness, he is well worth the money?

From the posts i seen, and things i heard.... i have no doubts that the CEO is paid as much he would in a MNC and the money are used for the way it would be used in a normal organizaton. :)

that's the point! Bill Gates doesn't get criticised by his wealth, because he sells thing..he sells service, we know he is rich..but we need the service, we buy.

NKF?Charity organization is different with a commercial company, ppl pay them because they give trust that NKF can help ppl, NKF don't take risk like Microsoft.. will you donate to Microsoft?why?

Please try to be Sensitive....

One black sheep (no pun intended) does not make NKF a bad organisation. I have to agree with Mrs Goh, the patron, that the lawsuit is about defamatory comments by SPH and not about transparency of NKF. She even mentioned that for a organisation like NKF with 189m in reserves, paying S$600k is peanuts....

I do hope that the patients will not suffer because of this.

Didn't Durai admitted what SPH said in their report is true?

I rather Mrs Goh did not comment...it simply adds to the fire...including mine.
