now that they have withdrawn from the lawsuit, how're they going to pay for the legal fees, making use of the donors' money to pay for their own mistakes?

Shame on u Durai! Shame on u NKF top management!

my wife is on its monthly contribution to NKF, how can she stop being 'victimise' by NKF? does she need to go down to the bank to stop payment?

waddah ya think? :embrass:

Credit to SPH's editor for bringing this to Light & letting the public know the truth.

For now, what I want to know is whether;
1. How is NKF going to address this to the public, especially those who donated on a monthly basis, eg through GIRO. I dun care abt those who donated during NKF shows, I believed most of them are in for the cash prizes.

2. What MediaCorp & its' artists who participate in NKF Shows has to say about all these. Will they simply deny everything to do with NKF & claims that they do not know. Hey, if they are so 'passionate' & involved in helping NKF, shouldn't they do their homework before publicising so much for them.

3. Most important of all, Will the Authority steps in & set up a Body to monitor all Charity Groups?

I was just thinking over dinner that this whole episode is a bit fishy. CEO of big [charity] company suddenly sues newspaper over allegations made that he installed gold-plated bathroom fixtures and that he flies first class using money from collected donations. Remember, he has sued and won against individuals making similar claims in the past, except this time its the national newspaper. During the trial, he admits that yes, he did have $990 gold-plated taps installed in his private office, and yes, he does fly first class, albeit on a different airline who's first class rates are not very different from the business class in SIA which he is entitled to. Then he drops the whole case... then, what was the point of the lawsuit in the first place??!

Made me wonder if there's a 'conspiracy theroy' at work here? Maybe someone 'up there' has a reason for his removal, and all this was orcherestrated play by play? The whole lawsuit and the admissions that follow is so unexpected given that both parties have got very senior lawyers representating them... Its like me sueing someone who said I stole money, then admitting that I did it a day after the court proceedings started

IMHO.. if ever anyone read..

We are looking at a Charity and not Commerical Organisation. Money are donated and not earned.

If we think the the CEO has done a good job running NKF like a commercial entity, and deserve the big paycheck/bonus, 1st class flight, gold toilet bowl, then..

Stop encouraging people to scarifies their time and effort to do voluntary work.. they should be PAID!

Stop asking the patients and family to show face on TV and share their sad stories, they are the CUSTOMERS of the organisation. They need the PRIVACY too, not only the CEO.

Stop asking for blood donation, Blood cost money to make too! PAY for it!

Stop asking me to be kind hearted.. its the CEO's job to generate income for the needy, not ME!

Isn't this how business world work?
Totally agreed! I'm on your side.

Talk about donations...i see this as a gamble...make a $5 call and stand a chance to win a condo or an expensive car.

Singaporeans are charitable? Think again!

If this is all for charity (the CEO's salary and bonus aside), what if the sponsors' condos, expensive cars, other cash prizes all go into a fund to help the needy....how much do they add to?

I stopped donating to NKF long time ago, but 1 fine day i sent an SMS by mistake and wasted my $5...they never stopped disturbing me..even though i have called M1 to stop receive any NKF SMSes.

Donations are meant to help the needy....thus i didn't hesitate to donate to the tsunami fund...even though there are no cars or condos to be won.

So many donation drives a year? I rememer that there are about 3 donation drives a year, each comprising of 1-2 shows. At 5 million dollars per show...how much are they gona make end of the year.

Charity? How about singtel charging $0.21 per call...on top of the amount you are donating?

my 2 cents

For me, I've never donate a single cent to NKF, knowing that they're not transparent enough with their money. Not that I'm stingy, but I want to know every single cent I've donated are put into good use. I'd rather give money to those I think they need most.

She will need to go to the bank and fill in a form to terminate the giro deduction, or some banks allow u to download from website but still must bring to the bank in person. (I just did that. I also made monthly donation to NKF and 2 other charity organizations, now I cancel the NKF one and will look for another charity to donate)

Transparency is the keyword. After the unfolding events and withdrawal of the defamation suit, NKF needs to do more.

By opening up!!

i guess after the startling relevations in court, nkf's public relations people will work to limit damage control. restore confidence.

Hi all

i think this event is going to set in motion a series of changes to NKF, hopefully for the better.

However I worry about the repercussions to the patients benefiting currently under NKF... Will it end up that their current benefactor will pull the rug under them in order to keep themselves afloat? Will potential patients scheduled to come under NKF suddenly find themselves rejected and having to look elsewhere for help?

Point is, should this blow into a big scandal, someone, preferably the govt, will have to look into continuing the welfare of these patients while the war rages

there is enough reserves to last at least a couple of years.

Actually make that 30 years. I think the TV News said they had S$260+ million in reserves.

and I must correct this sentence: not their money, should be the donor's money! The money for the patients! :)

thanks Astin, go by filling the form, just need to tell the bank that she wants to terminte the NKF donation?

even if its a small amount, the $990 tap is enough to crank a few gears in my body, i rather give money direct to the needy.

I stopped donating to them long ago when I saw the way they are spending the money.. I usually donate more directly to the various places that need the money and use the money properly... :)

I think given the public outcry, as soon as you show up with the form, the lady behind the counter will know what you're there for already :)
